Eddie Murphy Might Play Richard Pryor In A Bio-Pic

I think Eddie could pull a dramatic role but I don't know about this..

Bill Condon shopping Richard Pryor biopic, with Eddie Murphy attached

Writer/director Bill Condon, who just completed his debut run as producer of the 2009 Academy Awards, is shopping his script Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? to the studio subsidiaries and independent distributors around town. Eddie Murphy is attached to star.

Sources tell EW.com that Fox Searchlight, the studio behind this year's big Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire, is interested in the film. The studio, which declined comment, has a relationship with Condon, having partnered with the director on his 2004 feature Kinsey.

Condon, who most recently wrote and directed Dreamgirls, had the Pryor biopic set up at The Weinstein Company but was able to pull it out when the indie outfit put it into turnaround. He initially was hoping to secure $30 million to produce the film, but that number, sources say, has dropped down to $25 million.

Murphy, who has featured Pryor impersonations in his act as far back as the 1987 concert movie Raw, seems a likely choice for this role.

I like the fact that they titled the movie after one of my FAVE Pryor albums,,,,and I have great respect for Bill Condon, so we'll have to wait and see hmmm

Just plain wrong. Horrible casting. When was Murphy even last funny? last good movie? Bowfinger?
Looks nothing like Rich either. I realy hate this idea.

for more on this, read the talkbacks here (just click on one of the responses at bottom. Some NSFW.

IMHO, Eddie Murphy was EXCELLENT in "Dreamgirls" and that was recent.

As for looking like Richard Pryor, that's what they have makeup artists for. Not that IMHO he'll really need to rely on that to portray Richard Pryor accurately.

Co-sign.

That role was one of the reasons why I wish he would tackle more "drama" roles. But Pryor's bio-pic wasn't what I had in mind.

STILL...

I find this abit intersting, esp when you consider Bill Condon's involvement.

This makes no sense. Richard and Eddie were working at the same time, Eddie's pushing 50, they acted in movies together, and it just feels weird.

This may sound strange, but I'd give Marlon Wayans consideration. I think he can act (see Requiem For A Dream). But he may have done one Scary Movie or White Girls too many to be taken seriously.

Shawn Wayans could be a better choice(for resmeblence reason). Although that woulda been the DEATH of Eddie, losing the role to Shawn lol since he can't stand the Wayans.

Hell, why not? They took Jamie seriously (Booty Call), Tom Hanks seriously (Bachelor Party), Michael Keaton seriously (Mr. Mom), Robon Williams seriously (Mork & Mindy).

Yep! biggrin

The scene with him trying to get across that busy traffic was comedy gold. Steve Martins last decent film too.

hmmm Eddie is a great choice, but wasn't Mike Epps considered at one time? I think he has more of Richard's looks, but Eddie carries Richard's vulgarness and charisma to a tee.

and about that damn Beyonce, yeah I wouldn't be surprised if they had her play one of his many ex-wives. Or maybe as Richard's mother or grandmother who ran a brothel...hmmm
