Finally! I got a grant!

There is no emoticon to describe how I feel this morning.

The reason I have not been around a lot is due to the fact that I have been pouring my heart and soul into work. The year started with two of my best chances for funding being rejected.

Then this morning.....

£1.7 million

For those of you who know what I do, and for those of you that care you will know this means a great deal to me. Not in monetary terms (although that helps us get the job done) but it means that we are finally being taken seriously and that now, with this support, we might really be able to make a difference where it matters most.

eek

There you go, that is the emoticon du jour!

I don't know what you do, but congratulations!

I've been through the process (not alone, but with a grassroots organization I helped found), and I know what a heartbreak it can be. And the jubilation when you do receive the help you need to do the work is indescribable!

Well done, Steve. Working in the same area, i completely understand the thrill of finally getting funding for your ideas.

So, does it come with a travel/conference budget? Next year's AACR is in Washington cool innocent

We need to get the work done but I think we can play with the big boys now, I will see if we can get an abstract together....

I teach ungrateful undergraduates about the marvels of biomedical science and when i am not being bugged by the little darlings I try to get in the labs and do my bit for cancer and pregnancy research; primarily in the area of biomarkers (testing for cancer/pregnancy).

Can’t go into to much detail but the grant was for imaging, diagnostics and potential novel interventions for the treatment of cancer.

It is rather ironic that in a year when most are under financial pressure we as a research group are having our best year ever.

Of course this doesn't go to pay my mortgage and I don't get anything personally out of it. We will be employing 5 new post docs though. So the money will go back into the economy from whence it came.

Of course Obama has just announced new funding for NIH too - might get me a piece of that action later in the year while we are on a roll!!
