I accidentally painted my dog

Last week I was painting my livingroom, preparing to move out and I got paint all over my dog's back, between her eyes and on her head. redface Fortunately it didn't get in her eyes, nose or mouth but I imagine it's very annoying now that it's dried. Does anyone know how to get paint off an animal without using harmful chemicals or pulling hair? Has anything similar happened to you before? What did you do?

well, nail polish remover, (acetate) or paint thinner would take it off but those are extremely toxic and would get all soaked into the hair around her eyes and maybe burn her skin so bad idea.

but, if you brush her hair gently with a fine toothed comb it should sort of flex the paint out eventually? could you heat it up with a hair dryer and coax it off?

it's not doing any harm where it is; someday it'll fall out.

or, maybe paint her other colors like you MEANT it that way and start a trend?

i'm just winging it. never had a dog.

I like your last option. smile

One time that my brother was bleaching his hair, he put some on the tip of my dog's tail and it turned the hair from jet black to bright magenta. It looked kinda cool though.

And when we were little, we used to use highlighters in my golden retriever's ear hair to make her look like a punk. She'd go around with neon green hair for about a week. Dogs will put up with anything it seems.

My parents have a black lab mix and we shave the dog and it's hair grows back VERY quickly. But of course puppies have different fur then adult dogs.

The same thing happened to a dog I know and eventually the paint just faded away.

What kind of paint is it?

If its an oil based paint, I dont think thinner (oderless perhaps) would hurt your dog. I definitely wouldnt clean between the eyes tho. There is also a Soy based thinner which supposedly isnt as toxic, but it smells bad and is hard to find.

Sorry for the confusion. She's not a puppy. She's 4 years old. smile

I'm not sure where I got the idea that it was a puppy. Well anyway if you do cut the hair it will grow back.

An old roommate once spilled candle wax on my kitty!

evil

It was not pretty.

wink

I tried to carefully pick it out but basically the hair in that spot just all fell out after an hour or so of my cat biting at it. It all grew back of course. Poor kitty. sad

I think your best bet is to try to comb out as much as you can...

Tron, best thing is to let it be. It doesn't hurt the dog, and trying to remove it might.

Enjoy the new look! wink

Yeah, I agree with what some other peeps have said, get a very fine toothed comb and try combing it out.

Thank you for all your suggestions guys. I'm gonna go with the brushing and it is fading slowly without any help. It did look kinda cool though. Especially the war paint pattern on her face. smile
