heart One of my fave scenes.

Love this scene, but my faves are the much, much earlier shots after Louis's been freshly turned and Lestat is sort of taking care of him; putting him to bed in his new coffin, bleeding the girl into a wine glass so Louis could pretend it was wine. It's all very sweet and touching when you think of Lestat and Louis in terms of a human relationship. mushy

I honestly don't think he cares as much as we think. shrug And I only recall his getting really pissed over the porn guy's allegations. And I'm gay, but I would have at least sued the guy too. It's one thing to speculate about stuff like this; it's another thing to actually allege false charges and claim they directly led to the breakup of Cruise's marriage. confused That's just foul.

The question is, would he have reacted the same way had it been a woman -porn star or not -that claimed to have had an affair? If yes, then it's all gravy. If not, then it's eyebrow-raising time.

confused Who could ever, ever answer that?

I will speculate, though, that for the vast majority of people out there, if someone libeled them such that it subjected them to undue suspicion during a potentially very expensive divorce, potentially very contentious custody negotiation and miscarriage of their unborn child, they might be in a fighting mood regardless of the sex of the accuser. I know I would. shrug

of all the vampires Louis is my favorite.

and Michael Curry of the mayfair witches. I actually cried when Michael appeared in Blackwood Farm. I was so happy to see him. I have dressed as Merrick twice at halloween.
I think Sting for getting me into these books, and the song Moon over Bourbon Street. nod

Sting?

I've never dressed up as any of the characters, but I've seriously considered doing Lestat for Halloween before. Dressing up as a male character is so much more fun than dressing up as a girl.

I really think The Vampire Lestat should get the proper movie treatment. I always wanted to see Louis and Lestat's reunion on the big screen. Pity Tom 'n' Brad are too old for the parts these days.

Her's a thought though, since Anne Rice has gone all holy on us these days, would she even approve a new movie being made? hmmm

You know that Sting wrote Moon Over Bourbon Street back in the 80s when there were talks of making Interview With a Vampire into a Broadway Musical with Sting as Lestat? Sting could have worked it. So could've Rutger Hauer. The scariest person ever associated with the lead role of this was Cher. I can't remember if that was before or after the plans for Sting to play Lestat, but either way the idea gave me nightmare.

I hate to say this, but in this day and age of continuity I think they need to redo Interview with a Vampire, follow it up with The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned. I love Brad Pitt as Louis, but Tom Cruise as Lestat and Antonio Banderas as Armand were major mistakes for many reasons. I could see Angelina as Akasha or Pandora for some reason.

the movie rights to most of her books are probably already sold, so she already has and doesn't get to change her mind after the fact.

frankly, a Christ the Lord movie might also be interesting. i saw that there was a movie planned, but that it's been scrapped.

i suppose a teenage jesus displaying what amount to "super powers" on the screen would probably get a lot of crazy religious people up in arms, though.

Movie rights like book rights are sold for a certain time period, 10-20 years is average. The movie rights for Interview changed hands a few times and even reverted back to her before it was finally made. There are also clauses that can be included to give her a certain amount of say-so in the making of the movie...these can include, approvals of casting and script, and even if the movie is released. This all depends upon who her literary lawyer is and what sort of deal they brokered when they were last sold.

I loved Antonio Banderas in the role of Armand. I thought he was perfect. So was Stephen Rea. I loved Pitt too. I am totally not a Cruise fan and I thought he was a whiny, spoiled brat I wanted to smack some sense into. I projected my dislike of him onto his character, I guess. Although I know the roles were different, I just keep comparing his acting with Gary Oldman in Stoker's Dracula and it is not even a close call.

I thought little Kirsten was amazing as Claudia. She had the eyes of a woman. And I would love to see Angelina try her hand as Akasha.

Lestat is supposed to be a spoiled brat though, hence the cute nickname. razz

I dunno about Angie as Akasha though. Being as she's an ancient Egyptian queen, I'd go for a black actress for her part.

Antonio Banderas was too old for the role. Armand is a child, not a full grown man, not the same age as Louis or Lestat. Cruise did better than I expected (and Anne Rice expected), but he still missed the mark for me. Yes, Lestat is a brat, a totally different type of vampire than Dracula (Gary Oldman was fabulous I agree), but there was just something that was off, maybe even too over the top.

Kirsten was fabulous, I don't know if anyone could top her as Claudia.

While it would be nice for the role to go to a black actress, there are few I could think that could really embody the character with the intensity that is required. Akasha is intense even in her silence. Thandie Newton or Sophie Okonedo, maybe

Ok, so if the first three books were remade into movies, which characters would need to be cast? And who could play them.

Lestat
Louis - Brad Pitt stays
Claudia -
Armand -
Magnus -
Gabrielle -
Mael -
Marius -
Aaron -
Amel - CGI
David Talbot -
Enkil -
Jesse -
Khayman -
Maharet -
Mekare -
Pandora -

Ok, just did a bit of research to help determine age & looks (though the looks can be created with makeup & wigs)

Lestat (21, long curly blonde hair & blue/grey/violet eyes) - Did not feel Stuart Townsend
Louis (25, green eyes, brown hair) - As much as I love Brad Pitt, he may be a bit too old to portray 21
Claudia (5, curly blonde hair, blue/violet eyes) - abigail breslyn would be nice, but may be too old
Armand (17, brown eyes, auburn hair) -
Magnus (unknown, black hair & eyes) - smallish role so it could be an unknown
Gabrielle (30-40, cobalt blue eyes & long blonde hair) - tilda swinton is a good pick
Mael (unknown) -
Marius (40, blue eyes & white blonde hair) - gary oldman would be another good pick
Aaron (unknown, older white hair) -
Amel (no age) - CGI
David Talbot (74, changes to 26 in Tale of the Body Thief)-
Enkil (mid 20s, dark eyes, black hair)-
Jesse (35, green eyes, long curly red hair) - rumer willis would be nice, but she's a bit young for the part
Khayman (mid/late 20s, brown/black eyes & thick black hair) -
Maharet (20s, green eyes, red hair) - susan sarandon is too old,
Mekare (20s, green eyes, red hair) - identical twin to Maharet so either twins or someone who can handle dual roles
Pandora (35, brown eyes & long dark hair) - Thandie Newton
Santino (30, black, full wavy hair) -
Akasha (mid 20s, deep brown/black eyes, long black hair) - Sophie Okenedo

It's been ages since I actually read the books so I'm getting rusty on the characters of the lesser figures. Must dust the ol' tomes off again. geek

Louis - I would love Brad Pitt to stay as Louis but these days he's just too old, unless they pull some Benjamin Button style CG

Claudia - There aren't a lot of really good child actors right now IMO, but surely someone would be appropriate.

Gabrielle -Cate Blanchett

David Talbot -Michael Cain

Akasha -Sophie Okenedo

I really do not understand people who liked Stuart Townsend as Lestat, and not just because the movie was bad. The guy can't act Lestat to save his life, and wears leather pants far too often. He just added to the gawdawful goth music video feel the whole movie had.

TOTALLY AGREE...which leaves Tilda Swinton to play Maharet and Akasha, who I was totally thinking could play the dual role.

hmmm That could work.

I really think that Maharet and Mekare should be played by one talented actress instead of finding two.

My thoughts exaatly.

Just thinking about I think that the two leads...Lestat and Louis should be unknown, or lesser knowns...Claudia will most likely be that way too. Casting should be treated like the Harry Potter movies, in the sense that there are newbies as the leads with strong established actors supporting them in important but smaller roles. I also think they need to sign all of the actors that play roles in all three books be signed to at least a three movie deal, with options to follow up with "Tale of the Body Thief" and "Menoch the Devil." I think that the rest of the Vampire Chronicles fall into two categories...spin-offs focusing on individuals or Mayfair Witch tie-ins.

So with Lestat, Louis and Claudia as unknowns/lesser knowns, the following chosen:

Gabrielle (Lestat's mom)- Cate Blanchett
David Talbot (Talamasca) - Michael Cain
Akasha (Queen of the Damned) - Sophie Okenedo
Pandora - Thandie Newton
Amel (entity that starts the whole thing) - CGI with a strong voice actor

that leaves smaller but important roles:
Magnus (Lestat's maker)
Marius (the keeper of Akasha and Enkil)
Aaron Lightner (Talamasca head)
Enkil (Akasha's husband)
Jesse (the descendant of Maharet & Khayman, works at the Talamasca)
Khayman (servant of king Enkil & queen Akasha)

Jesse (the descendant of Maharet & Khayman, works at the Talamasca)
Khayman (servant of king Enkil & queen Akasha)

I would love to see Thandie Newton in a part. I love her. Do you think they would still use her even though she was in Interview?

I had totally forgotten she was in Interview. She had a small enough part though that I think they could. I thought of her as a possible Akasha, especially because of her role in "Riddick", but after seeing interviews with Sophie Okenedo for "The Secret Lives of Bees" I just felt there was alot of potential to be tapped there. I think she could take Akasha to a much better place than Aaliyah did.

I'm a huge fan of both Sophie and Thandie. Hey, we should cast it! lol

I agree, but Angie has played a Black woman before, cool although I'd love to see what Sophie could bring. Maybe Sanaa Lathan? hmmm

I don't see the depth in Sanaa, that I do with Sophie.

it's alright. it's an interesting concept. definitely an improvement on the last few Vampire books and the last Mayfair Witches book.
