But I do remember that Anne didn't want him to play Lestat. I think the main reason that he went after the part so hard was that she didn't want him to do it, plus it was pretty sought after and had the chance of going on because there are so many more books. I must say I prefer stuart townsend as Lestat though even though I hated the liberties they took with the movie "queen of the Damned" I wish they would make a movie about the mayfair witches.

I caught the Feast of all Saints on showtime last week. It was ok

Thing is, it's never been a secret that Anne Rice's vamps are incredibly sexually open, even with the fact of their not actually having intercourse of any kind. Tom Cruise, being strongly opposed to those persistant gay rumours, is usually quick to brush off even the suggestion he's a bit light in the loafers.

Maybe he was just oblivious to Lestat's hard-on for Louis?

I loved the movie.

One of my fave homoerotic parts was when Armand and Louis are in the museum towards the end. It looks like they were going to kiss.

I don't know. As much of a buffoon as Tom Cruise is, he doesn't shy away from sex, cussing, drugs, etc in his movies. He doesn't seem to be that uptight about the images of his characters

Similarly I saw John Travolta on SNL doing a skit as Dracula, wondering why everyone thought he was gay. I don't know if that was directly related to rumors about him, but it seems like it.

oh one of my favorite movies...

I'm no huge Tom Cruise fan, but he seems rather professional when it comes to the craft. This was a challenging, respectable part for him at the time and it stood to make a killing at the box office. Those were his key incentives to take the role, and I think he did a pretty good job with it. He's never seemed terribly moved by "the rumors," and he shouldn't be.

i really wish that they would strike the 'Queen of the Damned" movie from the record and re-do it (and "The Vampire Lestat") and re-boot this potential franchise. there are at least 2 or 3 more good books in there to be adapted before the series turned to meandering, self-indulgent crap that could really make for great movies, if QOTD hadn't sucked so bad.

Tom has never seemed threatened about gay rumors. He laughed it off on Oprah when an audience member asked a similar question when this movie came out. He asked Tom if he was afraid people would think he was gay because of the movie, then Oprah asked the guy if he was concerned and the guy said the people he knows already think he's gay and Tom cracked the fuck up and said it didn't bother him. Tom never paid for pages in a paper to proclaim his heterosexually like some other people did

wasn't the character lestat based off david bowie?

My point is, Tom Cruise has never really taken a positive or even neutral approach to the rumours, so on thinking about it, it seemed strange to me how readily he accepted the role of a bisexual undead frenchie.

IMO The Vamprie Lestat and QOTD, if done as movies at all, should be done seperately. I know the stories interlock, but there's too much backstory involved in both to cram them into one movie effectively.
