Going to Jamaica in 1 Week - Who's Been?

I am going to Grand Lido resort in Negril, Jamaica next Friday for a week and cna not wait! has anyone ever stayed at that resort? it's next to Hedonism, which I also plan to venture over on one of the nights during my stay. Anyone ever been to that one as well?

I won't leave the resort unescorted. I think I'll be okay on the beach/resort.

if you leave the resort you will be approached. and they are definitely in need!

Yeah, my brother and a co-worker told me that. My co-worker told me she and her husband went off the resort and this little boy approached them and asked if they wanted to have their picture taken together. They told him yes but he wouldn't give them back their camera unless they gave him money.

Poor kiddies.
I don't know if it's the same but in Mexico there was a man who worked with a bunch of kids,
and all the money we gave the kids, the adults took.
So better to give them something they can use like someone mentioned, clothes or candy.

sad

Love Negril, I'm partial to the Moondance Villas. Have never had a problem but be wise like SammiJ advises.

And know this. It's apparently quite common, but when it happened to me - it was NOT FUNNY!! I walked the beaches and visited beach bars and restaurants with my feet in the lovely cool sand. When I returned from Jamaica I noticed an itchy spot on my foot, that seemed to leave a faint trail and travel up my leg. Over about 3 weeks I saw 3 different doctors. They all seemed to be stumped. I did research online and suspected that there was in fact, something crawling inside my leg and all this time the thing was moving higher and higher. I then went to Toronto's Tropical Disease Centre and found that I HAD A NEMATODE (worm) crawling inside me. I had to take heavy duty, liver killing drugs to kill it. And I called the friends that I had gone to Jamaica with to tell them...and both of them had said that they too had an annoying itch. They freaked when I told them what it was. Sure enough - they had it too. YOU COULDN'T PAY ME TO WALK A BEACH BAREFOOT EVER AGAIN!!! At least not in a resort area. Secluded, natural beach - maybe. Apparently, these microspic nematodes are all over the beaches (not just Negril) from cat and dog shat, just waiting for you to lean back in your beach chair and dig those toes in. BEWARE!

You might want to invest in some inexpensive beach shoes. I know it sounds ridiculous - but this is what it has come to.

Oh and Hedonism. Too freaky for me. Went with friends to check it out 6 years ago. We didn't stay there, but I had arranged a site thinking that I might use it in business. Pulled up to a table near the bar, ordered a drink. At cocktail hour the place filled within minutes and there appeared to be a gender bender going on. Everyone dressed in reverse. One fellow, dressed up as a little girl walked over to where we were sitting and slapped, literally slapped his bare ding dong on the table. It was soooo unexpected, I think it took us a second or two to register. Gawd! We laughed all the way out of there.

That's quality, will be a great time. My ex is Jamaican so I know much about it but I haven't been there personally cause I can't seem to tear myself away from the West Indies long enough to stake it out. Hedonism or Hedonism II is on my shortlist of travel plans would be a must especially for anyone that leads a hedonistic lifestyle. nod

I don't plan on wearing or bringing any jewelry - too afraid of it getting lost or stolen. I'm not sure how much cash to bring to'. it is an all inclusive, but I will prolly want to go to Dunns River Falls, Rick's Cafe and maybe a guided street tour.

I don't have children so there is no worry there.

You guys are starting scare me now.

I went to Jamaica for my honeymoon 1 1/2 years ago, at a resort just down the way from Hedonism. So, all the resorts have catamarans that take you to where they do cliff diving. After we got there I heard all the other people on my boat giggling and whispering. A boat had pulled up next to us and was from Hedonism. Almost all the people were neekid. tonk
Some people were so offended!! Uptight newlyweds. Imagine that!

Of course, I took some some pictures, and waved. Nice people. Not everyone should be neekid though. shake

Negril is very cool and laid back,it felt alot safer than Montego Bay.
Go to Ricks' bar fairly early as it gets packed full of drunken tourists later!it's worth it for the divers though, they are amazing.
Dunns river is fun,bit crowded.you might want to try Mayfield falls,it was beautiful, like a watery oasis with caves you can swim into and wasn't as busy.definitly a romantic hotspot!

Have fun..
