it's very easy to though. The world would not be in the shape it is if the wealthy helped the poor. There is absolutely no excuse for poverty in this world.

It's more about politics than rich people. I mean, Bill Gates for example gives so much every year. Same for many other rich people. Even Prince helps in his own quirky way.

That's why Fury titled it "Generally speaking". cool

So if I put in a title, "Generally speaking, are black people idiots?" that would make it a legit question?
I don't think so.

Whether the question is "legit or not," isn't the issue. The issue is, he put a disclaimer on the question beforehand, indicating that he's not indicting all rich people.

They should be grateful. Not everyone's wishes can be granted at once. When something good happens to you, or when you're successful, have wealth, the chances are someone else is suffering for it.

speaking in such non-specific terms doesn't really achieve much though, since there are all sorts of rich folks out.

exactly. just like anybody else. besides, some people may be less fortunate, but they can help other people, but won't. it's about the person, not their finances.

I'm not sure it's an issue of caring. Most people can and will 'care' when given the opportunity.

I think it's more an issue of lack of empathy. That is, I imagine, a large number of wealthy people simply cannot relate or comprehend the difficulty of the mojority living from day to day, meal to meal. That's not necessarily a reflection on their nature, rather it's just simply not in their sphere of experience.

Having said that, there is no excuse for a complete lack of empathy. Being human should be the first step.

Yah there are some that do, and others that don't, and vice versa. Many ppl, rich and poor are typically products of their own environment and don't seem to keep an open mind to the real world outside of their own. Personally I know of a few wealthy families that are happy to associate with those of less fortune, and do acknowledge the welfare of others during this recession. I also know of many ppl that do give money to charities and volunteer their time especially lately with the bush fire crisis.

I also think it sets a good example when celebrities contribute their time and money to needy causes and prove that they are truly humbled humanitarians. The best example would have to be Nana Mouskouri, she's been a UNICEF goodwill ambassador since 1993, taking over from Audrey Hepburn, has tirelessly spent her time promoting the fundraising and advocacy work of many national committees. So if this woman who has sold more than 300 million albums, recorded 1,500 songs in 15 languages on 450 albums, has more then 300 gold and platinum albums worldwide, making her the world's best-selling female recording artist ever, can spend her time travelling to third world countries and caring enough to raise funds and help those less fortunate, then anyone can if they put their minds to it!

Out of the kindness of their heart? No...but like johnart said, they "care" when their is selfish motivation behind it.

That's no doubt true. But there's also no escaping the fact that with wealth comes responsibility.

Being a little more insular and protective of what you have is a lot more justifiable when you don't have much to begin with.

Generally speaking, HELL NO!

But, there are exceptions. One reasonably wealthy man that I know of only casually spent the first 15 years of his life bouncing between women's homes and homeless shelters with his single mother. And believe me, he gives a shit about the underclass, having been among them until his mid-teens.

Yeah it's all relative, you'll always find someone richer or poorer than you actually are.

Nowadays half of earth polulation live with less that $1.25/day. I suppose you got a roof above your head, which makes you really lucky compared to homeless people. The thing isn't giving all your money and stuff, but caring begins with simple things, like saying hello. Paying attention is priceless.

my sister and i live in the house my mom left us when she passed away. my sister just bitched to me about that we had to $1,000 for property tax for the year. of course i reminded her that the house is paid for and we never have to worry about somebody coming to put us out as long as we pay that $1,000 a year

Maybe she worried so much for a reason. So many people lost their house since this mortage crisis started... It's scary...

It's "scary" Mary, not scaRry brick
