I think that kids now are exposed to far worse things than we were. The problem is that parents don't take the time to guide their kids through the bullshit. Its not ok to do things because your friends do or because you see it on tv or in videos. Parents need to make sure that if it seems that their child is getting out of hand stay on them. I don't care if you have to take off work (I know its hard but you gotta do what you gotta do), find out where there at, check on them at school unannounced. And yes step in that ass when they need to be checked. Since I've been working at this community center with at risk kids I've noticed that a lot of parents are single and work a lot. They depend on us to make sure the home work is done and some times the disciplinarian. I work with high risk kids grades k,1,2,3,and 4. I have a class of 30. A few have behavioral problems and I have one who is mildly autistic. It is very hard but I love them all. A lot of them just want attention whether its good or bad so they act out sometimes. I advise parents to put aside whatever it is they are doing and take off a whole weekend or week devoted to only to that child. | |

My parents taught me manners, like saying please and thank you, respecting those who are older than me, holding the door for someone else, etc. Some of the people in my school are just rood and vulgar. I hear all these people talk about how much they hate their parents, but can never give a valid reason why. I hear about 15 year olds having sex (which is just stupid, because we're still just kids). It's horrible. I'm one of the few people I know who actually has a good relationship with my parents. I love hanging out with my mom on the weekend. I love going to geeky movies with my dad (I skipped the last half of school one day to go see Star Wars Episode 3 with my dad). My parents spanked me up until age 5 and I turned out fine. When I have kids, I'll probably use the same meathods they did (as a last resort like they did). My parents are awsome and because of them, I'm a strait A student who doesn't let my peers determain how I should act. I can only hope that there are more out there like me and parents like mine.
I don't mean to sound pretentious, I really don't. I just have to rant about my generation sometimes, becuase I feel like I don't belong in it. I've been told I'm mature for my age many times, so you'll have to forgive me. This post made me smile, hugely keep on keepin' on, love Aww, thank you.
