after 22 yrs of continuous employment:UPDATED I am about to join the unemployment queue. Today is my last day.
And what do i get on my last day with a business i have worked 4 for 9 yrs. an email from the owner telling the manager that he wont be in today (fair enough) and to tell me when my final pay will be in my a/c and to ask 4 my address so he can mail out final papers. (i live 10 minutes from work, and owner knows where i live- he could hand deliver himself) no, thank you for your loyal service (like the time i went to work the day after my dad passed away coz everyone else was on holidays and out of the state). no thank you for putting up with endless customer enquires: why are u closing - when r u closing -where r u moving too, where am i going to go now 4 my books. i didnt even find out it was going to be my last day til i asked him when exactly were we closing (on my birthday which he didnt remember- it is a small business-not a hard thing to do).he said probably another week or 2, but i wouldnt be needed next week. what was he going to do tell me in an email, or wait til i turned up on wednesday 4 work as usual. for those who dont know- im not leaving because ive been sacked or have found another job. i am leaving because the business is closing down. i have known this 4 a few weeks now, but didnt expect it to end like this i am so angry i want to throw things, scream and cry. thanks 4 the vent- im about to leave and needed to get that off my chest b4 i got home. poor hubby is stressed out enough as it is about my job loss without having a ranting wife. UPDATE: well, the first day of unemployment , i got a call from the city company store of the chain i worked for. could i start tomorrow I recieved this call during my sons running carnival and it really threw me- the week before they had nothing for me. i had to say no coz i had appts covering the next 2 days. I went to see the manager on that wednesday, and he was in another store til friday. i went back friday, and to cut a long story short, i started the following week temp full time contract for 2 weeks. i go temp part time next week on more hrs than i was at my old place. i have been working 4 8 weeks now- unemployed a total of 7 days every cloud has a silver lining. [Edited 5/2/09 3:52am] seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before

ohhhhh prb that sux especially when you have worked for someone for years and hoping to retire with them.
Well all I can suggest is take time off to relax and update your resume. When you are ready then start looking for another job. Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

Thanks luv i have already canvassed the book stores- and just applied on line to my previous workplace. I have updated my resume...after all this time and have started a Tafe course in computers to update my skills. i will take a couple of weeks off(i had 4 weeks leave accrued) but i really need work to pay the bills and jobs are pretty scarce at the moment. seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before

im sorry too. Im sure you know it isnt easy for those people either. Its heartbreaking on both sides. To make a thief, make an owner; to create crime, create laws.

thanks yes, i know, and i understand it would be hard face to face- but how hard is it to type a thank you my manager i call my manager, but really we are on equal terms, he is just my go to man if i have a problem with customers, which hardly ever happens. we have both been in the industry a long time and often bounce ideas off each other. i will be calling in next week to catch up 4 coffee- the owner had better hide my manager gets to do all the owners dirty jobs poor bugger im gonna miss my customers and books [Edited 2/26/09 19:56pm] seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before
