the real question is why wasn't this role offered to Beyonce?
You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna
authentic power is service- Pope Francis

This makes no sense. Richard and Eddie were working at the same time, Eddie's pushing 50, they acted in movies together, and it just feels weird.

This may sound strange, but I'd give Marlon Wayans consideration. I think he can act (see Requiem For A Dream). But he may have done one Scary Movie or White Girls too many to be taken seriously.

Eddie Griffin has mentioned something about becoming close to Richard before he died, and getting a blessing to be connected with a movie version of his life story if it ever came to pass. I might have to go back and look at the stuff he did since his "Dysfunktional Family" stand-up, but I could see a glimmer of something in him that might be able to channel Richard.

After Dreamgirls, I can picture Eddie being adept at capturing the drama in Richard's life (growing up in a whorehouse, the freebasing, etc.)...but I'm still skeptical if he coud channel Richard's stand-up persona. I don't know why, but something feels like a piece of the puzzle is missing for him to serve up all the outrageousness and make me believe that I'm watching Pryor onstage.

Ed Griff did a showtime series called Pryor Convictions or something like that. I can't remember if it was before or after Richard passed?

Mike Epps was actually cast to play Richard but he did something to piss of Richards widow Jeni.

lol Don't be embarrassed, because I didn't know who he was until 2000! He's Jeffrey Wright. Dude played "Peoples" - a Latino drug lord - in 2000's Shaft and I could've SWORN he was Latino! He also played "Basquiat" BRILLIANTLY. He played in "Syriana" as Bennet. And he just played Muddy Waters in "Cadillac Records". Dude is the business!
