Beyonce is going to to play Jennifer Lee. Filming will start after production of "Wonder Woman" is finished.
Naw, just kidding. Let Beyonce' do her thing and let's show her some love. [Edited 2/28/09 1:08am] "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

Eddie's talented and great at character efforts, but I worry about a contemporary of Richard's doing his biopic.

More reports on it:
http://www.blacktalentnew...2222.shtml Eddie Murphy ("Dreamgirls") has reportedly signed up to star as the late, legendary and iconic comedian Richard Pryor in the biopic based on the book, Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?. The film will reunite Murphy with his "Dreamgirls" director, Bill Condon.
Media reports say that Murphy has waived his usual fees to play his idol in the low budget flick, which has a price tag of $25 million. Pryor's career highs and lows, including his well-publicized battles with alcohol and drug addiction and his struggle with multiple sclerosis, will feature heavily in the project. The comedian was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the 1990s and died of cardiac arrest in 2005 at age 65. nWo: bboy87 - Timmy84 - LittleBlueCorvette - MuthaFunka - phunkdaddy - Christopher

I don't know, I'm getting a little tired of stars playing other stars--specifically people in the same field. Beyonce is a bigger star than Etta James, Eddie Murphy is also a legendary comedian. People talked about George Benson playing Wes Montgomery or Prince/Andre 3000 playing Jimi.
Why don't they just cast an actor? I think the star power & associations that eddie would bring would only hinder the performance. No doubt he'd do a great impersonation, but is that what you want from him? A movie about R.P. would be serious & tragic at times. I don't think an impersonation is quite right. I wouldn't want to see Dane Cook play Steve Martin or Gwynneth Paltro to play Nicole Kidman either. My Legacy

Because for certain roles that require musicianship/singing, it's easier to find someone in the industry that already has one of those skills (instrumentation/singing) and can act, whether their acting is average at best (Beyonce) or great (Jamie Foxx). nWo: bboy87 - Timmy84 - LittleBlueCorvette - MuthaFunka - phunkdaddy - Christopher

Since it's not a musical, I think a good actor could pull off performing some of Pryor's material and be a better actor. but they don't pay me to have these opinions...yet! My Legacy

Richard couldn't even pull of Richard in his own bio-pic. Might as well give Eddie a shot. He is, after all, an Oscar-nominated actor.

[Edited 2/27/09 12:40pm] [Edited 2/27/09 13:36pm] Eddie Griffin has mentioned something about becoming close to Richard before he died, and getting a blessing to be connected with a movie version of his life story if it ever came to pass. I might have to go back and look at the stuff he did since his "Dysfunktional Family" stand-up, but I could see a glimmer of something in him that might be able to channel Richard. After Dreamgirls, I can picture Eddie (Murphy) being adept at capturing the drama in Richard's life (growing up in a whorehouse, the freebasing, etc.)...but I'm still skeptical if he coud channel Richard's stand-up persona. I don't know why, but something feels like a piece of the puzzle is missing for him to serve up all the outrageousness and make me believe that I'm watching Pryor onstage. [Edited 3/5/09 0:11am]
