Yeah its a great idea but one thing wrong with this example photo...there is a foot path right next to him. I can understand people riding on the road when there isn't ample room elsewhere. But if its a small road and a cyclist insists on riding on it when there is a perfectly empty foot path why not use that instead?

Don't get me wrong my mum is an avid cyclist and because of her I am always looking out for them whenever I go driving, but when gets on my nerves are people who ride pretty much in the middle of a small road which has traffic going both ways and the only way to get around said cyclist is by going onto the other half of the road. I don't wanna hit the guy but I don't want to put myself at risk by crossing over the other side and hit an oncoming car.

Granted that doesn't happen very often as Canberra is very cyclist friendly

Bicyclists are not supposed to ride on sidewalks. They are supposed to ride on the side of the road going with the traffic flow - not against it.

Its not illegal to ride on paths here. As I said Canberra is very accommodating for cyclists and the majority of paths etc are made specifically for them thus why it annoys me when people insist on riding on the road when there is a perfectly good path made for them to ride on.

I can completely understand that some cities aren't like this and people are forced to ride on the road, I got no problem with that at all. I think there needs to be some form of class for BOTH motor vehicle drivers and cyclists so we all can get along peacefully on the road.

Reminds me of a tragic thing that happened not too long ago in Sydney. On one of the busy highways there was a team of cyclists training for an event (they had permission to do so on such a busy road) and some asshole driver wasn't paying attention and clipped one of them and they all went down. Don't really remember exact details but there was a few of them severely injured in it, while the driver got away with no scrapes.

We have BIKE paths for cyclists, and footpaths for pedestrians. If it has a bike symbol on it (like the laser light in this photo) then you can ride on it, otherwise you get booked.
