nod I say stupid stuff too! About 10 years ago I went to a book signing of terry pratchett. The queue was obscenely long, so I spent the best part of 2 hours chanting to myself 'don't say anything stupid, don't say anything stupid...' when I got to the front of the queue, I plonked my book down in front of him and said 'I go to bed with you every night!' doh! err (I only meant that I read his books before I went to sleep! And for that matter I hadnt actually meant to tell him even THAT!) he looked at me like I was bonkers! When Id scurried off outside, redfaced I checked what he'd written in my book - he'd put 'Kerry, in your heart you know its true!' lol

Nope. I work in an industry where celebrities pass through on a daily basis, have met some very cool famous peeps but in the end they're just fellow human beings so I see no value in spending my dosh to meet them.

Yeah that is a good point. But I see people like Bill as someone I admire greatly even as just another human being and he's worth the cash to me. I've spent more money meeting orgers.

I hear yah V, I wasn't too sure who Bill was so I had to google him LOL redface some celebrities never reach our shores down under. wink

If I had the money and the package was good and I enjoy the celebrity (like the scenarios Anx mentioned) I would. Not just for a photo op or a signature.

Plus I'd bring a painting, cuz I'm a total whore about getting my artwork to celebrities. lol

I might like to pay to meet prince, but out of principle it's just wrong! Maybe if he hosted a music clinic or something...

i guess it depends on what all i'm getting. if it's a meet and greet as well as a speech/performance/Q&A, or if there's some kind of swag involved, then sure. but if it's just for the privilege of shaking their hand and maybe getting an autograph, naaaaah, not really.

i've met most of my favorite people at book/record/DVD signings, and those are always free.

One point leading to another, it all depends on the context. I hate all the groupie things, and yes celebrities need to go to the loo like everyone else. In that case why would they worth my bling? I had the opportunity to meet many of them when I was a receptionist for National french TV, and I've been quite disgusted afterward; it was like the most obnoxious mass gathering.

Nevertheless if I had the opportunity to meet Maya Angelou for example, maybe I'll start to save in order to book a plane ticket. Discussing the world with this fantastic woman must be priceless.

Thus it's all about the way of apprehending the celebrity factor. Maya Angelou isn't a "star" in the shallow sense of this word.
Is there any place of refuge one can flee from this insanity
