Today Is National Pancake Day - About National Pancake Day so you can go to your local IHOP and get free short stack pancakes.
February 24, 2009 Known also as Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras, National Pancake Day dates back several centuries to when the English prepped for fasting during Lent. Strict rules prohibited the eating of all dairy products during Lent, so pancakes were made to use up the supply of eggs, milk, butter and other dairy products…hence the name Pancake Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday. Since beginning its National Pancake Day celebration in 2006, IHOP has raised nearly two million dollars to support charities in the communities in which it operates. With your help, we hope to raise $1,000,000 for Children’s Miracle Network in 2009!

Ex-Moderator | I had never heard of pancake day until 2006. When I was in the UK for it.
I don't think I had pancakes that day, though. |

It explains a lot about why the pancakes in the UK are not that great. They only make them one day a year.

The thing is Pancakes in the USA and in the UK are totally different!! The pancakes(breakfast pancakes) in the USA are what the Brits call griddle cakes and the pancakes in the the UK are what the Americans call crepes!!! The Brits also do crepes but based on the French idea which form the basis of Crepe Suzette!!!!

WTF is a griddle cake?? I'm sure we don't use that name for anything. Some people are like Slinkies...
They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

A former co-worker of mine always talked about organizing a pancake race. She never did. And now she's gone...so we'll never have one. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
