Wow no good. I'm curious to know what the investigators will find caused this to happen, aircraft malfunction or pilot error.
One of my aircrafts at Virgin made an emergency landing at Melbourne airport yesterday after one tyre blew at takeoff. Not a boeing though it was an E-Jet Embraer. It wasn't a big deal but as usual passengers panicked and freaked out.

Excuse my reaction mate but I suppose cause I'm already in the industry and know too much about Qantas and all their fuck ups with filipino engineering in last 6 months I just don't trust them, too close for comfort. How much did each ticket sting yah? I'm looking at the itinerary and there are 2 separate flights on there, one qantas (mel - lax) and one delta a few days later (vegas - nyc) and together are $1500 per person - I think they were under $900 with gst from here to LA [Edited 2/25/09 3:22am]

QF did lower their fares a few months ago after their mishaps and also to come in line with V Australia fares. Hope U have a great time. I lived in the states few years ago reminds me of an adult playground, overrated but a good time to be had.

The flight attendants on QF are scarier then the aircrafts, it's like being confronted by the women on Prisoner - Cell Block H lol!

Good to know. I thought Qantas was the best to fly to Oz though... What do you think about Cathay or Air France? Nope not anymore babes. Maintenance performed on Qantas aircrafts is now outsourced by workers based in Singapore and the Phillipines. There have been claims that essential electrical cabling known as ribbon cable has been repaired with office staples instead of either an approved plug/socket or replacement of the length of cable. Other maintenance works being declared complete on schedule check lists where the actual work has not been done, means that aeroplanes with parts that should have been replaced are being flown with pilots and passengers unaware. It's bad enough that Australia's so called national airline has pushed Aussie engineers to take the dole queue whilst incompetant workers in Singapore and the Phillipines take over and put the safety of Qantas pilots, cabin crew and passengers at serious risk. All this from an airline that gave a shit about its passengers and the crew in ensuring that planes take off but also land safely. All routine maintenance should be done here in Australia. It's now no longer considered the worlds safest airline, their record has been tarnished. Since the changeover their aircrafts have had some near misses and one very close call late last year in October. As for Cathay Pacific, I know from some peeps that worked for them it's a good airline with a decent reputation, despite 2 former crashes. I don't know enough about Air France though babes, I'll have to ask my brother, he's a consultant with Singapore airlines and quite switched on with all that jazz.

there was nothing wrong with the plane, it was a Boeing from 2002, last check-up November 2008.....better avoid traveling with dodgy airlines like Turkish Airlines.....they just had not enough fuel to make it the very last miles. The plane crashed tail first.....just dropped out of the sky! Also, no fire!!!! That was the only luck they had! [Edited 2/25/09 13:41pm]
