It looks like the Summer of Cute Dresses (which I have declared for 2009) will be followed by the Autumn of Cute Dresses.
I'm going to be spending a lot of time at the sewing machine. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Maybe a third? I started sewing as a teenager so I could have one-of-a-kind clothes. (Even if I sew from a pattern, the chances of anyone making anything exactly I make it are slim to none.) And that's still how I roll. It isn't about saving money. I work for a clothing company, so I can buy stuff for far less than I can make it. (Which is why I don't make basics like t-shirts.) Sewing for yourself isn't really that difficult. Over time, you get to know how your body is shaped and what alterations you need to make to a pattern. Right now, I'm in the process of refining my own "block" for making pants that fit perfectly. It's a tedious process...but I'm almost there. And once it's done, I'll be able to whip together great-fitting pants (of all kinds) like nothing. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
