AND I took the liberty at looking at the photos you posted in the your city skyline thread and have deducted you are a pom, so in fact our bakeries, mostly derived from yours, should be very nice to you nod

I'm from continental europe, with a rich baking heritage (in my family especially) and when we arrived in this country 1978, all bread was square and white, there was no such thing as crusty rye sourdough etc mad my mum nearly went spare to realise there was no pumpernickel or knäckebröd here.
31 years later, you can get all those things here, but not in an ordinary Australian bakery.

Did you go to Ackland street when you visited Melbourne? I posted some cake shop photos in this thread drool pies and pasties don't do much for me ill

I'm only semi pom, I was raised on Pulla, Nakki, Kropser, Hapanleipä. not sure if I visited Ackland street, went to a fantastic chinese though

sigh if there was a shop that sold these I wouldn't be complaining bawl

Baked goods are a HUGE weakness for me. Practically my only food weakness, bread and sweets.

But it's in my blood. My paternal grandmother's family are bakers - they run a small chain of bakeries here in the Minneapolis/St Paul area called Wuollet (my grandma's maiden name) Bakeries. The dessert tables at the family picnics I went to as a child were inSANE!

Their first bakery in 1944:

When I was growing up, I lived next door to an old lady that worked at the Danish Maid bakery. She would bring us over day old cakes ALL THE TIME! They were so good. No wonder I was a little fat ass! I think we have one bakery on the other side of town now. It got flooded last year but I think they're reopening soon.

I'm a hardware store addict. I like to look at all the vanities and the kitchens. And then I daydream about what I can do with this old house. I don't usually buy anything but I love to window shop.

Really? That sucks. sad Our Aldi (Hofer) in Austria will sell a special fashion collection made for them by one of Austria's most famous designers in some weeks. Maybe the Australian Aldi will offer something similar soon.

I have found myself spoiled by bakeries, so much so that I no longer go to the bakery section of my store.
