Son, 3, of Knicks center Eddy Curry witnesses murders of mom, baby-sister in Chicago

pray rose

Knicks center Eddy Curry's 3-year-old son witnessed his mother and baby-sister's murders in their Chicago apartment Saturday, according to a source close to Curry.

Nova Henry, 24, a former girlfriend of Curry's, and her 9-month-old daughter, Ava, were found shot dead by Henry's mother around 6 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.

Curry's son was found unharmed inside the South Side apartment, but his father was still described as "despondent" Saturday night.

The killer is a "known acquaintance," said Chicago Police Officer Amina Greer.

Henry had a boyfriend and had filed a restraining order against him, according to team sources.

Greer did not say whether the suspect was being questioned last night, just that the case is still "under investigation."

A Knicks source close to Curry described him as "distraught" upon learning of the woman's death and what his son witnessed.

Curry was told of the murders after the team's loss to Philadelphia last night and cried upon hearing the news, said the source.

Henry had claimed the murdered 9-month-old infant was Curry's child, but the player has adamantly denied it.

Autopsies were set to be performed Sunday.

Curry flew back to New York from Philadelphia with the team last night, and the source was not sure if he was staying in the city or going to Chicago.

Curry is married and has four children with his wife, Patrice - Eddy III, Reign, Reigan and Reiganna, according to the Knicks media guide.

In 2007, Curry and his wife were bound and robbed at gunpoint in the family's suburban Chicago mansion by three gun-wielding thugs.

Saturday's tragic incident comes during an especially tumultuous period for Curry.

Two weeks ago, the Knicks star was sued by his former driver who accused him of making sexual advances, forcing him to perform demeaning tasks and twice pointing a gun at him.

Ex-driver David Kuchinsky also claimed that Curry bombarded him with racial and religious epithets.

Curry has played in just one game this season after missing the first 35 games with a right knee injury.

He arrived for preseason training out of shape and was set back further by a bacterial infection that forced him to miss the first six days of training camp.

Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni has repeatedly insisted Curry needs to improve his conditioning and drop some weight before he can become an effective player again.

You can say that again. I mean, people like that are heartless. I mean, I'm reminded of that J-Hud story a while back when the child was also killed (and so many more stories that don't even get reported) All I can do is shake my head in disbelief. But the reality is the world has some fucked up "people" walking around. The best you can do is Pray for their family their loved ones and friends. I can't even imagine a tragedy like that.

another wide receiver for the NY Giants was involved in a shooting this week (not Plax) and now Eddy Curry. I know NFL rookies are lectured about being careful with whom they associate...

no, you cannot.

Naw, there are plenty of trustworthy people. It's just that whether through circumstance or choice some get themselves involved with those that aren't...

Report claims Knick Eddy Curry was murdered baby's father

Knicks center Eddy Curry didn't just lose his 3-year-old son's mother to a brutal murderer - he lost a daughter, too, it was reported Wednesday night.

Nine-month-old Ava Goings, who was fatally shot along with her mother, Nova Henry, was also Curry's child, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Wednesday night.

Curry has publicly admitted fathering Henry's son, Noah, who survived the massacre last Saturday. He had long denied being Ava's dad.

Citing a source familiar with the paternity case Henry lodged against Curry, the Sun-Times says DNA tests confirmed the NBA star was also Ava's father.

Based on that finding, Curry was ordered in September to increase the $6,000 in monthly child support he had been paying Henry for Noah Curry's care to $15,000, the source said.

"I'm sure Eddy knows the truth," said Tom Henry, who was Nova Henry's stepuncle. "From what I understand, there was a recent DNA test that proved Eddy was Ava's father, and he did the right thing by his daughter."

In the sealed court papers, Ava bears the last name of the man Nova Henry's family believes is the murderer - 36-year-old Chicago lawyer Fredrick Goings.

Nova Henry, 24, lived for a time with Goings - over Curry's objections - and he helped prepare the paternity paperwork, relatives said.

Curry, 28, who is married and has four other children with his wife, Patrice, could not be located for comment.

His lawyer, Kelly Saindon, did not return a call or e-mail for comment.

Nova Henry's family began blaming Goings shortly after a blood-smeared Noah was found alone with the bodies in his mother's condo just south of The Loop.

"Fred did it," the little boy has told relatives, according to Tom Henry.

Calling Goings a violent stalker, the Henry family pointed to court records that revealed that Nova Henry took out a restraining order against him in 2006.

Goings was released after he was questioned this week and has not been seen since.

Curry, who grew up and has his house in the south suburbs of Chicago, flew home Tuesday. But it wasn't clear if he has been reunited with young Noah.

The boy's maternal grandmother was awarded custody by a Chicago court earlier this week.

Lawyer Michael Kalcheim, who represented Nova Henry in two paternity cases against Curry, told the Sun-Times the boy will be returned to his father's care.

Curry was expected to be at the 10 a.m. wake for Nova Henry and Ava on Saturday at the W.W. Holt Funeral Home in Markham, Ill. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Glenwood, Ill.

So he knew the little girl was his and was still denying that shit about 2 days ago? What a fucking scumbag.

And why in the hell would they let the guy go when Eddy's son said the guy did it? They'll never see him again.

Police make arrest in deaths of Curry ex-girlfriend, her baby

February 22, 2009

By Dan Rozek and Annie Sweeney, Sun-Times News Group

A Chicago lawyer has been arrested by police probing the January slayings of the former girlfriend and infant daughter of ex-Bulls player Eddy Curry, sources said Saturday.

The man - who also once dated 24-year-old Nova Henry and even briefly represented her during a paternity dispute with Curry, a former basketball standout at Thornwood High School - hasn't been formally charged, but authorities said they are reviewing murder charges in the case.

The man was being questioned by police Saturday after being picked up late Friday without incident on the South Side, sources said.

"All I know is he's in custody,'' the man's attorney, John Lyke, said Saturday. "He maintains his innocence, of course.''

Henry and her 9-month-old daughter, Ava, were found shot to death Jan. 24 in their near South Side condo. Her 3-year-old son was found blood-smeared but uninjured.

The break in the complicated case came after cell-phone records and physical evidence allegedly linked the man to the killings, sources said.

Henry and her former boyfriend - who had represented her last year in a paternity case involving Curry - had quarreled on the day she was found slain, according to a preliminary report on the shootings.

A possible cause of the dispute is that her ex-boyfriend claimed Henry still owed him money for representing her in the dispute with Curry, sources said.

Henry's ex-boyfriend originally was arrested in Michigan City, Ind., a day after the deadly shootings and charged with trespassing at a hotel. He was questioned extensively by Chicago police at that time but was released.

Henry earlier had dated Curry, and he acknowledged fathering her 3-year-old son.

Curry, however, initially had disputed that he was the father of Ava, whose last name on her birth certificate matched that of the man now being questioned about the slayings.

DNA tests done after the infant and her mother were slain, though, confirmed that Curry fathered both children, according to sources and court records.

Henry and the lawyer now in custody had a troubled history together that included him being charged in 2007 with domestic battery and telephone harassment of Henry, who obtained an order of protection against the man but later declined to pursue criminal charges against him.

Henry's relatives couldn't be reached for comment Saturday. Neither Curry nor his representatives could be reached for comment.
