The Windy City-Life in Chicago [b]We've talked about Houston and New York, now let's talk about the city one spot larger than Houston and Dallas.....Chicago. 3rd largedt city and metropolitain area in the nation Chicago is the seat of The Midwest. Sitting on Lake Michigan it has the world's tallest tower, subways, the biggest international airport, and is the birthplace of House Music.
I know Goodtimes, and Oprah.....but tell me what I owouldn't know about the world class city. Working up a purple sweat.

i lived there for 6 years. the thing that struck me most about living in chicago is that it felt less like one big city than it did a bunch of little villages. imagine a connect-the-dots puzzle as a city, and that's what chicago felt like to me.

I *adore* Chicago. I lived there for 6 years and still sort of miss it. It has a beautiful skyline -- it's like looking at a three-dimensional history of modern archtecture.
I also love the museums: The Museum of Contemporary Art (where I worked) and the Art Institute are world class. Chicago has great restaurants and a decent music scene too. I found it easier to keep up on the "hot" new spots in Chicago. Here in New York it's impossible--there's too many and it's too complicated to be "in". It's much easier to become VIP or "on the lists" in Chicago. The lake front is awesome, too. Honestly, the freezing winters didn't bother me--I grew up in the midwest so I grew up with that climate. If there were more job opportunties in my field, I would consider moving back there; although I worry about being bored with it after living in New York for 5+ years. (There are also some personal reasons to keep me here and away from there. I Chicago! The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Lived here for 15 years except for two or three years in Madison, WI. And yes, there are big-ass raccoons and opossums. Also coyotes in the south loop. Lots of museums, plays, and clubs. Too much crime, too many gang-bangers, and too many guns. It's a felony in Cook County to own a gun, but it seems everyone has one. Too many "innocent bystander" murders. I feel as if I'm constantly looking over my shoulder these days.
The city is too expensive to live in. Too many fees for every damned thing you can think of. Parking meters doubling in price soon. A $16 fee just to drive downtown. We have the highest sales tax in the nation. 10.5 cents on the dollar. The lake is beautiful...the Field Museum and Adler Planetarium are awesome. So is the Shedd Aquarium. The Taste of Chicago is always fun with the free concerts and fireworks. Although the crowds can be overwhelming. I plan on moving back to Madison soon, but my kids all live here so I have to come back to visit. And visiting is better to me now...maybe 15 years is too long. I need a break from big city life. I visited Chicago in 2004 and I had the time of my life. It's a really vibrant, exciting city. The downtown area is so lively and fun, with lots of cool restaurants.I hung out with Stymie and we had a great time at Buddy Guy's Legends Restaurant/Blues Club. That soul food was DELICIOUS!!! I have relatives that live here,so I will surely visit again.

Well I'm hearing things about Chitowm. It's not the big metropolitain city we think it is. SUpposedly Chicago is more like what you'd think Houston*Texas) is and Houston is more like what you'd think Chicago is.
It's in The Midwest awhere there's conservatives and hicks. From what I hear Chicago is a sleepy conservative town. Houston actually parties harder on the club scene and is mor elive. Famous people have said that about New York too. It had more clubs but a place like Dallas is more into and in the mode. And aat concerts every single performer tells us we're harder and rowdier than most other audiences(US). I talked to Thea Austin a world famoys House singer after a concert here at South Beach. I aksed her if we were as wild as New York...expected to be a little southern boy that had nothing on NY. She replied kinda of funny in a voice correcting me"You're wilder.". If we're more wild and rowdy than New York we for sure must beat Chicago. Working up a purple sweat.
