Isn't that nuts that they make you pay 25 cents for a shopping cart? [b]Actually, in Germany you always have to pay for a shopping cart, at Aldi or any other shop. You also have to pay for grocery bags. I guess because Aldi is a German chain they just imported the idea over there not researching their marketing demographic very well. Sorry to hear your experience was bad. It sounds like they really haven't done their marketing research for the stores they're building in America. While ALDI is known as the discount market here in Germany, the quality of our shops is exceedingly better. For example, my typical items from Aldi are New Zealand lamb, Norwegian smoked salmon, orchids, exta vrgin olive oil, sundried tomatoes, biscotti, tiramisu, ect., ect. Our Aldi also has travel agency services with trips to Greece, Italy, Istanbuhl, Sweden, Shanghai, ect. Sounds like they need to do some serious restructuring over there if they want to succeedin the American market... [ [Edited 2/22/09 22:51pm]

I like their milk, but I would never drink their cola for example. I drink their low fat fresh milk and their 1% plain jogurt. Their buttermilk is good too. The Aldi brand cola horrible though

I am drinking their buttermilk right now . I did not know that ppl actually drank that stuff. I have used it to cook/bake with but I could never drink it. Though right now I am eating strange things so maybe I will crave buttermilk too but I doubt it. Right now I am eating pickled beet root, carrot sticks dipped in blue cheese dressing, crackers, swiss cheese and some yummy fruit salad that I made yesterday.

No they aren't . When their are tests about the quality of products they usually get good results. I will take your word for it. I do not like milk so the thought of lumpy soured milk just does not appeal to me. I can't get past the smell. It does make baked goods moist and tasty though.

No they aren't . When their are tests about the quality of products they usually get good results. the "real brands" want you to think that they need the money to pay for their advertising and shelf space priorities

I grew up in Detroit, and our supermarkets had cages around the doors so you literally couldn't take the carts to your car.
Depositing a quarter -- that you get back -- seems fine. They not only don't have to pay someone to do it, but it also keeps the damage down to cars. I haven't been to an Aldi for a long time, have to check it out to see how bad it is now. I don't mind store brands for certain things, but for a lot of things I like my favorite brands.

I disagree, something are fine from Aldi, dry goods, bake goods, spices and such, but other things suck. It's trial and error. Clancy chips, aren't doritos or fritos. plain and simple. They probably charge you to rent the carts so as to insure that they get them back. Carts are not cheap. Brand new ones cost a store $500 apiece. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. I buy the bags of bananas and pears. They actually put a produce cooler in the one I go to now. Before then I'd usually get home and the tomatoes would be all rotten on the bottom. The grapes I purchased there held up great. I would not have purchased them before the cooler was installed. They used to just lay the produce out with no chilling mechanism. I always get fresh spinach and butter greens salad tomatos on the vine grapes pineapples bananas gala apples oranges- in orange season only and then you can get the walnuts and balsamic dressings to make a delicious sald all types of cheeses: provolone munsteur dessert cheese balls LOVE HARD.

Yummy!!! Marks & Spencer's pickled beetroot is the best; all the other brands use some level of artificial sweeteners, whereas the M&S brand uses all sugar.
