Definitely slot machine gambling,
Here in New Zealand we have these machines called pokies at evry bar and pub, they are like your one arm bandits, exceptthey are button operated have 5 or 6 reels and can have up 25 paying lines. They cost 2c or 5c a game, but you have to insert $2 pieces, and to get a reasonable chance of winning everything you have to play 25 lines and up to 6 credits a line, so a 2c game can cost $3 a spin, hence they have note acceptors too and become very addictive, they are a real plague here and most of the addicts are poor and/or coloured.
I had been addicted to them for 13 years, enough to ensure I was broke most of the time, I tried to give up majorly 3 times, the last in 2007 where I was clean from March 22 to November 15th nearly 8 months. I started playing again. Finally 3 weeks ago I had a dream with my dead mother visiting and talking to me she said "You are slowly murdering yourself", for that reason I have never gambled again, I know its only been 3 weeks, but that kind of warning I swear it will be the last and unlike all the previous attempts I have no desire to watch. Already I feel my life has improved immeasurably since I have. Yet I was addicted to it for 13 years and thats the bad thing. cool
Prince addiction, well I don't want to give that up. lol
So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Nicotine. Over three years clean.

Lately, I've been doing something I haven't done in a few years: playing guitar. I've been woodshedding and it struck me that it's my first time doing this without the cancer sticks. Feels very strange. But I will never go back to that shit! No electronic voicebox or tubes in the nose for me, thanks!

Have you ever tried to kick an addiction (cigarettes, alcohol, other drugs, food, etc.)? What were/are your triggers? Did/do you feel like a pathetic douchebag for not being able to kick their asses?

Biting my nails, smoking, drugs, alcohol, moaning and food.

Okay, quit biting my nails as I didn't like the fact they looked bad and I thought that having a habit was a sorry thing. That was a few years ago. Boy, do my nails grow quickly.

Smoking. Over three years ago now. Hated the fact that cigarettes were in control of me and not the other way around. I detested them like one would a person. Then found out my daughter had tried smoking so couldn't go back to them if I'd wanted. Hypocrisy you see.

Drugs. Easier to stay away from them when you no longer have a supply. Still crave the state of mind though.

Alcohol. Never an addict but a moderate to heavy user. I'm British you see.

Got told many years ago to stop moaning by a close friend. Best thing he could have said as it made me step back and take a look. Only true friends can be so honest. Or friends that are just pissed off with your moaning. Either way it worked.

Food. I'm truly fucked. Quitting ciggies, drugs, booze and the like are easier as you don't need to have them each day. Food you've got to have so it's harder to control.

Tomorrow is 6 months smoke-free.

About the only main trigger I have left is alcohol so I've basically stopped drinking as well.

But really everything was a trigger when I was a smoker. Driving, a good song, a bad song, after a good meal, after a crap meal, etc.

I don't think I will ever be able to overcome my food addiction, though. confused

You'd think so. lol But it doesn't work. Or, it works for short amounts of time, but not in the long run.
And I do eat very healthy. I eat plenty of fruits and veggies, balanced diet, no meat, no fast food, etc. I just eat a little too much of it. And I have a sweet tooth. But even the sweets I eat are mostly home-made (I love to bake) or fancy-expensive chocolate or something. I think I just have to accept this one for what it is. shrug

I have a sweet tooth, too. drool

Did someone say sweets? drool
I feel very blessed to not have an addictive personality. I grew up with two parents that were heavy smokers. My mom smoked all during pregnancy with me then after wards both of them smoked in the house. So I have a serious allergy to smoke. I never had the urge to smoke cigarettes. I tried pot back in the day, did nothing for me. I do enjoy a little alcohol from time to time but only in moderation.
I am too cheap to have an addiction to anything that costs money. I have a hard time justifying spending money on some things that ppl call necessities.
Though I feel a bit boring for not having an addiction, I guess the closest thing is my love for all things sweet, oh and nail biting when I am stressed or nervous.

I am very proud of the ppl that I know that have quit smoking. My mom finally did it cold turkey when she was in her early 40's. My dad did about the same age when his adopted son was allergic to the smoke.
I am very proud of Carrie for coming close to her 6 month mark.
Awesome!
and Ace I think you are awesome to quiting as well.

None. I was very strict with myself (no replacing the cancer sticks with food). I climbed the fucking walls for a few weeks, but it was worth it.

You're lucky. I read that you don't just gain weight from substituting food for cigarettes. There's an actual change in your chemistry that makes you gain some weight. I was like "great!" it's not just psychological.

Never heard of that. confused Anyhoo, 'tis nothing that can't be shut down via eating right and/or exercise. Even if it meant gaining some weight, I'd be like, 'I can strip that off later; the important thing is getting off this shit before it does some damage to me that I can't undo.'

8lbs was a lot for me! All my clothes were tight, I felt gross and couldn't drop the weight. So I went back to it, and yes...I lost the weight plus some.
