Eyelashes Help

After years of periodically pulling them; they don't want to grow back anymore, or they are taking much longer than usual. I wouldn't consider myself having trichotillomania, which is the repeated urge to pull hair. So I'm considering false eyelashes. Does anybody wear false eyelashes? Which brands would you recommend? How much? I want them to look natural and not grousely long.

You need not buy the expensive kind for a subtle look.
They have just fine ones at the local drugstore/department store.

If you wanna go fancier, MAC has nice ones. Some are pretty dramatic tho.

I thought RuPaul gave a great tip - cut false eyelashes into 3 parts so they're easier to adhere smile I never can get the arch right when they're in 1 piece, but I have yet to cut mine up...

Essence just had a blurb about Shu Uemura individual lashes:

Damn, they have some fabulous shit on their site! love http://www.shuuemura-usa....goryId=432

where's CarrieLee? I think she's mentioned wearing them to go out smile

You can get those individual "eye tabs" as we call them in the south at any Beauty Supply store. My weavologist does mine for special occasions. batting eyes The problem is that you have to glue them to your own which will result in pulling out more lashes at least a few, anyway. Not sure if you wanna go that route though.

Good point on the cutting the lashes in sections. I used to put a full one on, then add sections to the outer 1/3 for definition.

Cut sections are much easier to handle than individual lashes tho. Those can be a pain if you're trying to cover a lot of ground.

I wear them every day! I go to CVS to get mine...they are the 101's and I cut them in half so they don't look too fake. Use mascara on the inside corners.

I would pull them if there were wild eyelashes, and I wouldn't stop at just pulling one. Sometimes when it's late at night and I'm tired or trying to fight sleep, rubbing eyes turned into pulling eyelashes.

Does the 101's use human hair? Walgreens and Rite Aid are the stores I'm aiming for. Anything over $10 sounds too much. Thanks for the tips and suggestions. Hmm...half a lash? I like the idea of filling in the patchy areas than applying a full lash.

I believe they are human hair...and they are only $4.99 a pack. I find that they look way more natural cut in half, are easier to put on and you get more for your buck. I reuse them too...if you're careful you can get about 4-5 uses out of them.

Does the glue eventually ruin the shape of them? Or does the base of it just get too gummy after a few uses? hmmm I never even knew they'd have to be replaced so often smile I really need to cut my MAC pair in half hmmm hmmm

Yeahhh technically you shouldn't use them more than once or twice but I do anyway! If you don't put too much glue on them it will peel off without ruining the lashes. There are random bands of eyelashes everywhere in my apartment...it's kinda gross!

Ok, so I bought Ardell fashion lashes 101 Starter Kit from Sally's. I tried applying them an hour ago, and no luck. Either I'm not applying enough glue for them to stick, or I'm not getting the lashes close enough to the eyelids. I'm looking really crazy with them, well only attempted one at a time. Already feeling discouraged and thinking maybe it's not for me. mad Any tips for applying them? My eyes won't stay still long enough to apply them. My eyelid should be closed while applying right?

I thought I read once that you let the glue get a little tacky before sticking it on, but honestly I need some tips myself. I really do wanna wear mine the next time I go out!

Mostly I think it takes practice and patience to get the hang of applying false lashes. When I used to wear them, I'd put a bit of the eyelash glue on a piece of paper and then use a toothpick to kind of 'paint' the glue onto the length of eyelash. Then I'd use tweezers instead of my fingers to hold the lashes and to place them on my lid, then gently hold them in place for at least a minute or so.

Also be sure to clean your eyes well when you remove your lasehs and use new, clean false lashes often. The extra hassle and expense is worth it to avoid an eye infection, a lesson I learned the hard way.

I tried to throw some on last night, it's trying to get it close to the lashline that's so problematic for me. I got glue on my lid, had to redo my makeup on that eye & never did apply it right! lol

lol Yeah, it can be a challenge getting the lash onto the right spot! Beauty is pain (in the butt). smile

Veering from the false eyelashes but still kind of related, has anybody tried those 'tube' mascaras that claim to give the effect of false lashes? I've heard varied opinions about how well they work, but I'm still curious...
