Fucking neighbours, what's wrong with people?

I've written here before about one of my neighbours, the teenage son of a family two floors (!!) down. He plays acoustic guitar and sings... if you can call it that - off key, inventing half-tones that don't exist and LOUD. The inner walls of our buildings are budget so no insulation, noise drifts upwards a lot. The fucking brat has been "singing" at all times when his parents have been at their cottage, and a while back I had finally had enough when he'd started playing the guitar at 1.44 AM!!!! evil I talked to his father and said this shit's gotta stop and that there are rehearsal rooms to book for free at the community building one block down the street. After that it's gotten much better, but...
...now the people downstairs from me are acting up! mad I've been down to theirs twice before to ask them to turn their music down LATE, like midnight, but they never open. Then yesterday they went crazy - at about 11pm they either beat each other up or had violent sex, either way it's way after the time it's supposed to be quiet and there are families with children living both beside them and above to the side. The loudest shit was toned down but then there was music and singing and some more banging about. When you can hear what song your neighbour is listening to when it's 1 AM, then it's time to do something about it. I went down and knocked on the door twice, then BANGED on it again twice. Nobody opened, nobody turned the music down so I called the disturbance on-call crew. They told me they're coming but to call back if the neighbours piped down before they got there. I wrote a note to the assholes saying "You've got a little while to shut up before the disturbance crew get here. I was down to ask you myself but you didn't open. If it isn't you making the noise please come upstairs to tell me so / Jen, right above you" Put in the mail slot and apparently somebody read it cause maybe 5 mins later whoever that didn't live there left, banging about in the entrance in protest I guess. rolleyes So I called off the disturbance squad but there will definitely be a complaint filed with my landlord come Monday. They're banging about now too, if they keep it up tonight there will be no warning before the crew gets called. WTF is wrong with some people who live in apartment buildings, that they can't respect neither their neighbours or the rules set up by the landlord? mad stab

Make me feel better, tell me that you have neighbours worse than this.

The jerks next to us, run a manufacturing business - sinky fish (due to the stench), and guessing here: laundry - due to the violent vibrations; that run up thru my brass bed & our floor through out some nights. Security company, Building Manager, HPD nor NYPD have attempted to stop them. So I've recorded since May 2008, the noises - at all hours, Teacher. They begin around 2am on & off until 12midnight. (22hrs of noise) mad The next step is Housing Court plus The Human Rights Department.

To be honest I really want to beat the snot out of these jerks. June 09 will be 4 YEARS, of this bullcrap. But my better sense, won't allow this. I have pounded their door like a savage. And there's a monkey sound CD with their name written all over it. No solution???? Then MONKEYS...all day long, baby!!

Hope you see\read you are not alone. I feel & understand your distress. Good luck with resolving this un-acceptable situation.

PS - Lot's of people say "Move." Not possible right now. Beside rents in NYC are sky-high. Besides, what if it's the same thing where I move to? Then what. Nah...They are the ones that will move due to the monkeys.

They really do, especially when you try to go to sleep. rolleyes I guess I should have skipped on warning them, but I've told you many times... I've mellowed out with the years. confused lol Now the time for warnings is over though, no more bullshit. That goes for both the assholes below me and the teenager.
I have a suspicion the apartment below is being sublet on the sly though. I will happily blow the whistle on them on Monday. evillol If that's the case the real tenant will be evicted anyhow.

omg Wow, now I feel blessed. But how come they can't be evicted? That noise has got to be against the rules somehow. I know some stuff like that is really hard to enforce though, here the landlord can set pretty much any rules they want as long as it doesn't break any laws. Therefore my landlord among others have put stricter rules in place, making it easier to evict people who don't conform - you can't have like 15 people living in a normal apartment, you get one warning for disturbance and next time you're out etc.
I'm really sorry you have to go through that, but I understand why you don't move - like you say about NYC rents, they're not to be played with.
Thank you for sharing, now the bass thumping through my floor and walls doesn't seem as bad anymore.

I'm told that all (except NYPD) whom I've approached to resolve this matter, are accepting $$$ from these individuals. Teacher, there are many others suffering under these same circumstances. There's one dear senior with a heart condition that's experienced excessive "non-everyday" noises for 14 yrs. I will (Lord willing) be running for a position on the Board of Directors, this year.

I'm sure you will have this intolerable situtation resloved, soon. You're living in a well managed place. They're not on the take.
Take care.
Thanks for the flower & hug.

I pretty much live in an "artists" building. Even those who are on temporary career leave (raising toddlers and such) were originally connected in some way or fashion to fine and performing arts...until recently I've spent the majority of my life coupling with composers....I don't know what life is like without hearing instruments being tuned and played, or students taking lessons or creatives blasting a bit of music each day. I think opposite of you I would go nutty from the silence lol

Excellent, bribes make the world go round rolleyes Incidentally, I went down to the neighbour living beside these people to ask her what she's heard and what she knows, and it seems like I said in my first post that the apartment is indeed being sublet without permission, the neighbour says the couple currently residing there is the third in a short period of time. They've left now I think but I do believe they actually fucking leave the music on when they leave! evil The market for subletting is mad here since everybody wants to live in Stockholm, so most people take loads of money under the table even though it's illegal. I guess the people who're on the actual lease of that apartment will find out the illegality of that soon enough evillol Come Monday, eviction proceedings will be initiated. demon My landlord is one of the biggest public interest companies in Sweden so there is no bullshit and nothing on the sly. I'll do that, I have nothing to hide. That can be both good and bad I guess but I still have nothing to hide. I'll trade ya - you can come here for a week of shitty dark weather and walk the dog as well as fuck the neighbours up, and I'll come to yours and bake cakes and gossip with the busy-bodies. deal

falloff That's putting it nicely! Sounds way loony to me. You did good to just deal with it the proper way though, I'm kinda glad I am too - I did the right thing ie try to ask them to pipe down in person but since they won't open the door, what can I do? shrug
