friday the 13 th remake pulls in $42 million

what recession? lol

FRIDAY THE 13TH (2009)

Domestic Total as of Feb. 15, 2009: $42,245,000 (Estimate)
Distributor: Warner Bros. (New Line) Release Date: February 13, 2009

Budget: $19 million

USA TODAY
Friday the 13th scared up the largest debut on record for a horror film, taking in $42.4 million this weekend, according to studio estimates from box office tracking firm Media By Numbers.
The debut was $17 million more than many analysts projected and trounced the record held by 2004's The Grudge, the previous highest-opening horror film with $39 million.

The 12th film to spring from the 1980 original is good news for studios rushing to reboot classic horror titles. Remakes of A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Wolf Man and The Last House on the Left are headed to the big screen.

The romantic comedy He's Just Not That Into You was second with $19.6 million, bringing its 10-day total to $55.1 million.

The thriller Taken also held well, taking third place with $19.3 million. The Liam Neeson picture has done $77.9 million in three weeks.

The Isla Fisher comedy Confessions of a Shopaholic met most expectations with $15.4 million, good for fourth place, while the animated Coraline took $15.3 million and fifth place.

The only other major newcomer, Clive Owen's political thriller The International, was seventh with $10 million, meeting most projections.

Ticket sales surged 28% over last weekend and 43% over the same weekend last year.

Final figures are due Tuesday because of the Presidents Day weekend.

Great. rolleyes Now instead of actually coming up with a new and original idea for a movie, the studios will just ramp up remakes of other movies that we don't need. disbelief Anyone want to see the $100 million CGI remake of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes? boo

That's not a great top five, except for Coraline. I just saw it today and loved it. Wonderful movie.

My Dad told me once that while he was dating my Mother they went, and saw a movie at the drive in,and that he thought it was called Last House On The Right. I thought maybe he got mixed up,and instead it was the one mentioned Last House On The Left, but after reading about that movie,it doesn't sound like the one he described. The one he said that went to go say,and left WAY before it was over, had these guys that apparently kidnapped this woman, and then they drug her up,and then while she is druged up,but still alive, they begin to basically butcher her. eek feeling ill

I was really surprised that they would even have a movie like that during probably the late 60's early 70's.

I'm gonna see it on my day off, Thursday. I hate it didn't get to see it opening weekend, especially on Friday the 13th. Would've been kinda cool, like Black Christmas on Christmas. Up until recently, I had a huge disdain for it, but fans of the series are restoring my confidence in it. They're saying it's really good, and the people who are telling me good reviews about are reliable with horror reviews. As long as it's better than Jason X & Freddy vs Jason, then I guess I won't complain after seeing it.

If anything this is a remake of Friday the 13th part 2, since Jason is the killer in this and not his mother. I don't know why they shot new footage of Jason's mother getting killed (you know the part where the head gets cut off) why not just use the footage from the original.

I want to see it. I love the Friday The 13th movies. I have the first eight on DVD. I hope this new one is equally good, but watching it in a dark movie theater is probably too scary for me, so I guess I'll wait until it comes out on DVD and I can watch it on my TV. boxed

I had to travel on Friday 13th - plane included... wasn´t looking forward to it, but all went well. Watching films like Friday 13th always scare me witless!!!! http://www.hitflip.de/dvds/ I like the name of the new one "Welcome to the Crystal Lake". Whenever you add a lake into things, it gets unpleasant!! Is it in the cinema in the UK? Might wait until it comes out on DVD!

I've seen,
Friday the 13th,
Taken,
Coraline,
Push,
The International,
Slumdog Millionaire

I'd only recommend Slumdog Millionaire. Coraline was good but probably not for everyone, so I wouldn't recommend it across the board.

Taken bests The International

Friday the 13th for the inventive body count but if you've seen the Saw series, the Final Destination series, and Hostel, all of this will be redundant and certainly less creativity.

Yeah thats Last House On The Left.

Yeah chile they stabbed her so much until the intestines started coming out. I forget how they killed the other girl. I think they did the same thing. Then just left her there. Oh but boy those parents got their REVENGE. It was a great movie. See it unrated and uncut.

Yeah,I was telling my Dad about them possibly making a remake of this, and was telling him how what I had read, sounded different than the one he had described, but the moe I talked,he said that, that was the one. The other girl gets shot in the head, and left in the river. ill

I find the fact that they continue to make more Friday the 13th,Nightmare On Elm Street, and Halloween movies laughable. I know they are just movies, but how are you supposed to be scared, when you see these characters, get burned, loose limbs, get stabbed, and yet they still live for another one. I will laugh my ass off if they make another Halloween movie, considering that in the last one Michael Myers got his head chopped off. lol

Same here. Even though it was one of the worst of the bunch, I still wish Jason Goes to Hell had been included. Probably some legal issues. They can leave Jason X out for all I care. I won't even watch that one when Sci-Fi channel airs it.

I kinda like Jason X & Freddy VS Jason (Sorry..I know). Jason go's to hell for me was the worst of the bunch mostly from what I remember Jason spirit kept jumping from one person to another....lame, you wanna see Jason.

Yeah, the plot line was lame, but Goes to Hell has nostalgic purposes for me. Actually, the plot for part 7 with Tina was pretty stupid too. People wanna see Jason destroy & conquer, not have competition. lol.

Well if you don't like slasher movies you won't like it. Everybodys been warn since 1980.... There's real no story in Friday the 13th, just jason killing for an hour and a half. Not your cup of tea, stay out of the woods

Exactly. lol That's why I think Michael Bay should've just made his movie into another part rather than "reimaging".....because since when has Jason's story line linked together. Just new directors coming in bringing Jason new victims to hack up. lol I was just initially mad when I heard the news, but calmed down after a while. I really calmed down after actually seeing it.

Well most fans of the original didn't.....same with Halloween. Those two movie weren't your basic slasher horrors. They were kind of groundbreaking horrors. I think that's what upset most fans about those two films. Like kpowers pointed out, Jason's just Jason. Even though I love it to death, there's nothing cinematic about it. Only cheesy 80's fun.

Yeah, I noticed. My aunt took us to see "Goes to Hell" when I was in the 3rd grade. I ended up seeing this boy from school there.... he'd give me hell in class. Why, I don't know. He just used to pick on me....and not in the "I like you" way. lol. Anyway, after we saw each other at "Goes to Hell", he stopped picking on me. I swear. It was kind of like a bond, even though we never talked to each....which is good. He just stopped making fun of me after that.
