Only in America

...can you sue for whatever you want and actually have it considered in a court of law. Now there’s been some stupid lawsuits that I have heard of over the years, but I think this one really takes the cake:

Currently, there is a federal class-action lawsuit in the American court systems against Mc Donalds. It was initiated and is being carried by a group of parents who are suing McDonalds for their children being obese.Apparently these children have been given McDonalds by their parents so much, that it has caused them to become obese and now the parents want to hold McDonalds responsible.

But, fear not...it is not only stupid parents. There are also 3 cases pending as well which were filed by adults who feel as though their obesity is not their own fault.

Once again...WTF? confuse Is this what we have been leveled to? and guess what? Who pays the Judges salaries? Who pays for the court time? Who pays for the bailiff? Your taxes do...Oh but wait I don’t know if you have to really worry about that because Bush is going to implement into the U.S. economy a new tax plan which will be nothing short of ingenious. (please don’t tell me, that wasn’t necessary, I already know it)

At any rate... perhaps I should sue the station, which broadcasts the commercial on the television I watch, for advertising the extra gravy that I ate at Thanksgiving. Or, perhaps someone should sell these people a F'N clue. If I had money and time and was totally bored, I think I might just sue these people for wasting taxpayers money on this stupid crap (yes you can actually do that here in the U.S...see in the U.S. you can sue anyone of anything). I would almost bet a dollar that I would win too wink

Wrong forum!

But you've got a good point...note the lawyers have the most to gain in these cases, and that they are in bed with the Democratic party.
Fear is the mind-killer.

Leave it to Teller to make it a problem with Democrats--not just the system.
There are lawyers on both sides of the issues, esp where $$ is involved.

yeah, I just didnt want to say it...lol...because I didnt feel like gettin' into it, because I knew it wasnt true

and you KNOW its all about the money, I wonder why no one is suing What-A-Burger (actual restaurant in my town...he he)

To be quite honest, I posted the thread here because I was actually curious to see if anyone was empathetic to these people in regards to them getting fat off of McDonalds food. It wasnt about politics at all. But I guess that snide remark about Bush didnt help LOL.

There's plenty to bash Bush about besides this. smile

I don't know WHO these people are who have abdicated all responsibility for their eating habits and those of their children...but it's more about the money I'm sure--after all, a large corporation is automatically evil and therefore has no rights under our altruist/collectivist/socialist system.

EDIT: btw, What-a-burger RULES! drool

Back to the topic, i think these lawsuits are just frivilous, esp the woman who sued Mickey D's a few years ago for getting burned by their hot coffee.
Unfortunately, most of these franchises don't want the bad-if even ridiculous- publicity, so they settle out of court for millions...which is exactly what these complaintants are trying to get.

If these parents think becoming obese from food is inherently wrong, THE PARENTS should be sued for knowingly feeding their kids the fast-food. Every fast-food chain i've ever visited has the ingredients/fat count/calorie count right there for anyone to read. Not to mention, it's common knowledge that fast-food is full of fat, salt, and sugar.

The judge should throw out the case and fine them for neglecting their children's health.
