Have you ever thought about being an Organ Donor?

I recently had a birthday, and as I renewed my license, they asked if I wished to become an organ donor. In the past, I was afraid to...feeling like somebody might pull the plug on me just to earn a buck. But after knowing a person who decided to donate a kidney to a family member, I started thinking about it more. I spoke with one of my children about it...and he said it would be okay...but he doesnt want anybody else to have my heart. He felt like it was too important a part of me to share.....has anyone else ever considered becoming an organ donor? Why or why not?
Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

I am signed up as one -- it is on my driver's license. I would like to be cremated so I may as well donate my organs beforehand. shrug

I am an organ donor, and when I go they can take whatever from me that might be useful to provide somebody else a better life, or even the very chance to live.

Wow really? That seems like a much better way to get more people to be donors

I admire all of you for being so giving.....there are so many people who feel like they need to take everything with them. I am going to talk to my little girl....the reason I want to talk to everyone is because I dont want anyone to go against my wishes...I want them to realize and understand the gift and how special it is.

Same!

But after smoking for 16 years (though I'm almost at 6 months smoke free!), drinking like a fish through my 20's and being overweight all of my life, I don't think anyone will want them. lol

woot! Congrats, Carrie!!!

I'm on the fence about this whole organ-donating thing. I mean, on the one hand, it could make a huge difference in somebody's quality of life (perhaps even save a life!). On the other, what if after you die you wake up in a magical land where everybody else is reincarnated in their earthly form and you're, like, missing your colon? sad

I am an organ donor already. It's marked on my driver's license. I don't know why someone wouldn't be actually.

I would want someone else to benefit.

once I settle down, I will sign up. I don't know if cards from other countries will be accepted. and since I'm not a resident where I am right now, I'm not sure if I could do it.
