There is NOBODY who can deny that a three legged dog will never fall on its ass or head because they lose their balance - they WILL because the weight of the unsupported side is too big. The way dogs SHOULD run and play they will and that right there is the only reason I need, if it happens where a four legged dog would not fall then the dog is NOT leading a normal life. Saying it'll learn to cope is also a full good reason not to do it because it shouldn't have to - a dog is a dog is a dog and they should have four good legs. I firmly believe that it's applying human standards to animals to say that they can do fine without a limb and animals aren't human. And Dewrede; I'm absolutely serious about if I were to lose a leg - nobody could stop me from ending it. Truly.

and he was very playful and seemed to be really enjoying his self playing who are we to say he hasn't got the right to live anymore [Edited 2/11/09 16:15pm] My rescue, Cowboy, has a splint on his leg now so he can't use the leg at all. He's been ripping and running in the backyard like it ain't nuthin. My Marley did the same thing when he broke his leg. Cowboy goes to the orthopedic surgeon tomorrow and we'll know then how to proceed. But I've already got a family that owns a farm that want to adopt Cowboy regardless of the outcome. The lady was a vet tech and when I described the situation, she said it would prolly be best to amputate. The best part is that she wants him anyway. I had a dog named cowboy! a little beagle! "not a fan" yeah...ok

Thank God the rescue organization ok'd for me to do whatever it takes. It will be a 12-week recovery but the doctor is confident that he'll make a full recovery. I know it's gonna be hard to let the lil bugger go when it's time. He's a superstar on 3 legs or 4. [Edited 2/12/09 10:24am]
