Travel By Train

I'm having a significant birthday this year and was thinking of taking a trip by train to somewhere fabulous. I've taken the train many times and love it but this will be about a 10 day trip. I'm in Michigan and am considering New Mexico or possibly South Carolina or New Orleans. Has anyone taken a great cross country train trip? Any suggestions?

A client of mine did an Oakland to Chicago trip with his family and he said it was the greatest experience he'd ever had. Maybe you could do the reverse?

then...

prepare to meet orgers! Dinner awaits you!

Meeting orgers would be fun ~ I've met several and they are all so amazing. Where are you? New Mexico is now the definite destination but side trips are certainly part of the plan.

That would be an amazing place to visit ~ I've been to California but never there and I have a friend not too far from there that I've wanted to reconnect with. I'm thinking of late August, September. If TRON comes with me we could drive over there for a long weekend.

I've taken this route several times from Oakland-Denver. The Colorado Rockies portion is fantastic, especially going through the Ruby Canyon on the Eastern side. It also goes over Donner pass which is cool.
