The least surprised should be MLB and the Baseball Writers Association and yet they still wanna try and cherry-pick HOF's from the steroid era like they don't know it was rampant. Either leave them all out or let them all in.

I said a long time ago that MLB sold its soul to the devil after the strike in '94...they willingly overlooked the use of performance enhancers and steroids because they needed to get butts in the seats...and now MLB is reaping its just rewards....

New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez, talking to ESPN's Peter Gammons, admitted Monday that he used performance-enhancing drugs.

Rodriguez says he used steroids between 2001 and 2003 only and has not used PEDs since he joined the Yankees. The use of performance-enhancing drugs would not be outlawed by baseball until 2004.

Speaking at his home in Miami, Rodriguez said, "When I arrived at Texas in 2001 I felt an enormous amount of pressure to perform and perform at a high level every day. I was young. I was stupid. I was naive. And I wanted to prove to everyone that I was worth being one of the greatest players of all time. I did take a banned substance, and for that I am very sorry and deeply regretful.

"Before that time, I never thought about substances. Since then I've proved to myself that I don't need any of that."

Sports Illustrated reported on its website Saturday that Rodriguez was one of 104 players who tested positive for steroids in a 2003 survey test by MLB that was intended to remain anonymous and non-disciplinary.

Rodriguez was with the Texas Rangers in 2003 and won his first MVP award that year.

In a December 2007 interview with "60 minutes", Rodriguez denied ever using performance-enhancing drugs, saying he had never felt overmatched on the baseball field.

It's no big deal, really. You just have to accept the fact that 1988-2003 will forever be known as the "Steroid Era". Baseball has always gone through different eras, but it adapts,survives and goes on. Folks will still go to the ballpark. I've been listening to WFAN all day - most of the callers don't care. Can anyone really blame these guys? C'mon, if you saw your peers taking short cuts to get ahead, and your employees's only reaction is to look the other way and rewared this behavior with multi-million dollar contracts, you would be tempted to do the same!
