Signed up to be one many years ago when I got my drivers license. I have not signed up since I moved to the UK.
I feel I should.
When I am gone, I have no use for those organs. If I can help someone else, why not?

nod Thats how I'm thinking....all they are gonna do is rot away if I dont let somebody else have them. I'd rather have whats left of me enhance somebody's life than be maggot food. I'm curious to know what it is that makes folks not want to participate in this.....I mean unless it didn't add up for religious reasons.
Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

it's very comforting to know that even though my sister died and we were hurting there were two other families that had another chance at life. i often wonder these 25 years later if the recipients might still be healthy or what happened. heart

how could you not be a donor knowing that you could be the difference between life and death for someone else?

Here in Austria everyone is one unless he states clearly he doesn't agree with it. I think that's a great thing thumbs up!.

Wow really? That seems like a much better way to get more people to be donors

Indeed nod.

I most likely will I just want the doctors to do some tests to make sure I'm REALLY TRULY DEAD before they take em lol

That reminds me of a friend who went through knee surgery,
in the middle of surgery she woke up and asked the doctor what he leg was doing hanging vertically.
The doctor said, "I think you need more anesthesia.

I am an organ donor. I have one member of my family who is alive today because of organ donation and I have another close family friend who is in need of an organ donation. I will always be an organ donor.

Do you have to be fit to be an organ donor?
What if you're not healthy and have health problems like high blood pressure, or diabetes, or something?

Just wondering...

nod I am an organ donor; I have it marked on my driver's license. I've been one for awhile now. I figure, when I die, since I can no longer use certain organs, why not donate them to somebody else who can use them?
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I'm a doner on my driver's license and my military ID...though I'm of the mind that if I should expire under military circumstances, there won't be much of me left to donate.....

even if you had diabetes your lungs would still give some 25 year old dying of cystic fibrosis a new lease on life. i don't think you don't have to be fit. they would probably determine what they could use based on a combo of age and medical history.

no, you don't. they will take what they can use...if you got a bad liver they won't take that but they can take your cornias, skin, bones and various other organs.
I'm an organ donor, my father was an organ recipient so it just wouldn't be right for me not to. On a related note, when my dad died recently he was also a donor but just for everyone's information....a flu shot can come up as a false positive for leukemia (I think) which my dad did...a second test was negative but it prevented them from using any organs or tissues from him. Kind of a bummer.

I guess one reason could be that people might be afraid doctors might not do anything to help them or that they might not be really dead when their organs would be needed.

If I had that fear and it caused me to want to think I did not want to be a donor, I would hope that I would seriously consider the chances of that happening to me and realise I was being selfish.

nod The chances that I need an organ one day are a lot higher than that somethng like that would happen to me IMO.

I read an article about how recipients feel better if they receive from a stranger - it was something to do with them feeling obligated and tied to their donor and for some it turned into resentment after some time and many friendships ruined because of it sad
I know I would do it for any of my kids, or sister or husband, since we are already tied together with a strong bond.
