I was grossed out watching tongues wagging for some reason. The William's sister tried to be as neat about it as possible, but those commercials gross me out.

I think I just never got over the "older woman" commercial like that, racing with her granddaughter.

We mustn't forget where this all came from. There was a time when passing for white was preferred if you wanted to have a chance at life. You had to act as if you were somebody you were not. At one time, it meant a whiff of freedom (provided you never dared have children...because somebody would come out brown). Those who couldn't pass often resented thos who could pass as white, because of the complete and utter disowning involved. Many who couldn't pass figured that if they adopted the behaviors...they might be accepted into white society....

In other words, doing the "typical" Black/White things that Blacks/Whites are known for. The proverbial stereotypes.

I just think society has to think twice before saying someone is trying to be black/ white, etc. I remember people back in the day people often said Bryant Gumble was a sell out. People said he was trying to be white because he was always accused of trying to talk white. That was ridiculous then, and ridiculous Now. Bryant Gumble is just a very educated person who speeks properly and he shouldn't be ridiculed for it.

That's the problem with SOME kids in the inner city are too busy "Keepin' it Real". Keeping it real ignorant. Kids are getting more respect for going to jail than for going to college. We need to break the cycle. Obviously I'm only talking about a small portion of the population in the inner city not everybody.

Well, Tiger just happens to be the first non-white person to reach these levels in the golf sport.....I think you should just look at it like that, not necessarily him being the 'first black' person.....if you look at his ethnicity, he father was only half black, and a lot of other racial backgrounds are in the mix. I think he's inspiring, a great model for many kids, regardless what race.
The deals, they come with the sport.....just like in any sport and not because he happens to be of color or not.

So because he's the first minority to reach those heights that means he needs to shun his Black heritage and then make it a point to point that out about himself? I have no problem with his other ancestry, most Blacks come with a few flavas, but he VERY RARELY mans-up and takes any socio-political stance for his Black ancestry.

Clarence would be a prime example of Uncle Tom not so much an Oreo.

So what does it mean?

I knew this Afro-American friend of mine, in the late 1980s, and he had this white, German girlfriend, and she would constantly call him an Oreo because he wasn´t really into HipHop and RnB and preferred " white people´s music" like The Cure and Depeche Mode, and he also didn´t wear tennis shoes and casual sports gear.

To her, he "acted white" by listening to the "wrong",uncool type of music and she kinda picked that term up from his other black friends who sort of lived up to her expectations of how black people should be.

Those were some weird years, I´m telling you. lol

Yeah, it's almost as if Tiger shuns being Black at times. Like he thinks of it as some sort of hindrance or unnecessary truth.

Wrong, Chi Chi Rodriguez was the first... Tiger is just getting all the $$$$ and titles because he is darker in hue, so Tiger got the $$$$. Ironic isn't it?

I'm sorry...but as a lifelong follower of professional golf, I have to call bullshit on that. Chi Chi Rodriguez didn't come close to what Tiger's done. Chi Chi won 8 PGA titles - not one major.

Tiger Woods, on the other hand, had 8 PGA victories in 1999 alone. He'e won a total of 65 PGA events - including won 14 majors. He's won more majors than any other player except Jack Nicklaus.

You wanna talk about Tiger's real forebears? Talk about Charlie Sifford - the first black PGA tour player. Or Lee Elder - the first black player to play the Masters in 1975. Tiger pays homage to these men often, knowing the very real discrimination they faced (not being able to play certain events because of course restrictions, for example), threats they endured, and sacrifices they made.

Tiger himself was unable to play certain courses while growing up. He knows where he comes from - and has talked about it.

I stand corrected, still, evenmore so why she should be proud of where he came from and not say that he is "Caublasian" its not about color, but a rich heritage that many white and black people have fought for.
