Hair drying Q

.

is it right that towel-drying your hair is not good for your hair?

and if so, what's the best way to dry it without damaging it?

I think rubbing at it very hard roughens up the cuticle
The only way to dry it without damaging is probably air-drying
any heat based drying is also no good lol
I usually wrap my head up in a towel until it no longer drips, then air dry. It looks crap but it's healthy! lol

lol yea i'll be fine with crap too as long as there's no damaging involved.

ok one more thing, does it make a difference if i put a towel on it or not? i mean on how it looks/feels after it dries up?

i seriously need to start paying more attention lol

Too much rubbing with the towel is bad for your hair, not really towel-drying per se. If you rub too hard then the towel might pull your hair out because wet hair is quite sensitive.Just towel-dry your hair gently, then use a blowdryer. They may not be the best thing for shiny hair but I look weird when I let it airdry.

thing is, i'm asking because i do not blow-dry, use products, or even comb/brush my hair lol.

i'll try going easy on it with the towel and then compare to when i let it airdry all along without involving the towel and see if there'd be any difference nod

Use the towel to gentley squeeze/sop up the worst of it and wrap in a towel to continue drying for a short period. I have to be careful, as if I leave it wrapped too long my bangs will go all funky (they'll stick out weird ways).

Then I air dry for another 20-30 minutes or so and then I finish with a shine product and I blow the last bit of dampness out with a dryer as it helps style my hair. If you truly prefer to air dry, you could from here also.

ok one more thing (and last i promise lol ), sometimes i notice my hair becomes so flat at the top, does that have to do with me finger-brushing it forward before leaving it to air-dry? should i brush it back?

Whatever I do, don't do it. It surely won't help.

hmmm..... that's a tough one without really seeing your hair (though every pic I've seen, it's lovely!). It shouldn't really matter unless you're matting it down, which, it sounds like you're not.

You're going to have to experiment with that one. lol

I think it looks great both ways!

You can try finger combing it different ways, but the only way I’d know to get it to consistently look all full on top like the second pic is by using some kind of product and a hair dryer. If you don’t want to do that, then it’s up to trial and error.

My kids went to the mall, and some dude was selling that dumb-ass product: $22.00 for two rolls, my even dumber-ass kids, paid for it! It is now under my sink, gathering dust.

It depends on the growth pattern. If you hair grows tight to your head on top, no amount of brushing it one way or another is going to help very much. Working against the grain when you dry it might fluff it temporarily...but it's going to do what it wants, ultimately.

That's why it's really important to have a stylist who knows how to work with the way your hair grows in addition to your hair type - and who will be honest with you about what your hair will and will not do.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
