Twitter anyone? Ok, I searched for a while now... and I really can't believe there is no thread on this one. Most probably there is one & something went wrong with the search.
So - who's on Twitter? Let's connect and tweet a bit... You'll find me at "WolfgangSenges". An alias not that sensational, I'm afraid. c ya there Wolf

I have no idea about Twitter. Love to see you too! Been on HQ (R.I.P.) - and had loads of work. Well, now that I'm embracing all that social media stuff (finally), I had my crash course on Twitter et al. twitter.com is a platform to exchange really short messages round the world (max. 140 characters). You get a profile (again sparse at best) and you can contact people you'd like to follow while others can decide to follow you. These accounts/people include news, artists (Wendy & Lisa, Stephen Fry, David Lynch, Brian Eno...) and, actually, geeks, nerds, social media freaks, loooooaaaaads of private people too. Within your private "timeline" you'll see any messages from the people you follow. And vice versa. Well, majority of messages might get lost or isn't worth mentioning. So I really wasn't that interested - first. Now I'm running this Twitter app constantly and I'm up to date with all the latest... doesn't matter if it's US, UK, Germany or even right here in Trier. More important, people hint you to useful links all the time. Just take a look... Haven't found many Purple lovers there...

^ Yep, it's really hard to follow when starting. Just like getting used to short messages on mobiles in the beginning.
Also it's somewhat frustrating to reply or address someone if they don't answer (experienced that w/W&L yesterday). Moreover, quite a lot of accounts do not accept direct messages like org-notes. Well, if you're Stephen Fry or Barack Obama, you'll appreciate that...

I'm gonna try it out. If I can get the swing of myspace or facebook, I can figure this out too. I'm on it, but as of yet, I really cant figure out what it does. Do I just check out to see what people are doing at that moment in their life?

If so, Just as said... you have to pick the right people. You know, if you're into web design, gadgets & sort of things you get to know really lots of good hints to sites etc. Also, by using tools like TwitterLocal you can easily find people tweeting around any region you'll define.

Stephen Fry is an amazing Twitterer - I'm also liking Jonathon Ross' twitters - he also adds pictures of his family/friends and dogs. Is there anybody else who has slightly mysterious bruises?

I think it's fun to talk to people you DON'T know. It's the same when you join the org... However, you really can add anybody to follow. Most of them will re-follow you. Ok, some of the celebs are strict on "no following", so it's quite passive. But try Yoko Ono or Björk. They added me. I guess W&L too (don't remember). Right now I think some of them are *really* posting themselves... but within a short span of time marketeers will take over. Btw, here's a quite comprehensive list of bands and musicians at Twitter. They miss out on Wendy & Lisa. Try their account "wendyandlisa". They are for real.

To be honest, I don't use MySpace at all and at Facebook I just keep a basic profile. You know, I use all these social networks' profiles also (mainly) for business reasons. Now, MySpace allows for a few options which in most cases result in pages which doesn't adhere to the basics of good design. Second, MySpace as well as Facebook are rather open to abuse (trojans, viruses, hacked accounts, notes which discredit you). That's why I stripped facebook down to some bare functions. Most important to me is communication and (from a professional point of view) marketing myself and my blog as widely as possible. That's what Twitter does. Unfortunately, I didn't consider my two different directions of interest first. So it's not unusual to have several Twitter accounts. But - to split my account now means to block/delete some people at my current account and to add all of them to a new one. That would be quite some work to do and some people (those who recognise me being the same person again) might be bothered. Btw, what's really nice when you start accounts and add followers are some available tools. There are maps where you can see where tweets are posted. Then there are readers which filter the incoming tweets down to a city you defined (and within a radius to be defined). These come either with or without maps. Just google up "twitter tools" and you'll get quite a few lists. Some readers (like twhirl) allow for management of several accounts. so you can either watch tweets for a single account, some combined accounts, for all of your accounts or even the whole timeline (all tweets worldwide - which isn't really useful).

I use Facebook and my blog much more than Twitter. But being that I promote my art on both, I use Twitter as an extension of them. It's another way for me to possibly reach some new folk. I think it's all a matter of personal preference in the end. I also keep a Myspace page, but very seldom use that one.
