My Dad was taken to McDowell ER yesterday.EKG was read.The doctor came in and asked him if he was feeling any chest pain.My Dad said no.Doctor told him he was having a major heart attack.McDowell Hospital isn't equipped to handle this severe cardiovascular emergency,so my Dad was transported to Mission Hospital,where he is now in the cardiovascular intensive care unit.He is alert and oriented but not completely out of the woods just yet.

So I have a prayer request for my Dad.
There are already several Churches praying for him.
I've prayed about it and I have turned it over to God's hands.
It really hit me when I went to his house and saw where he usually sits.
He was supposed to be there and he wasn't.
I know he is where he needs to be for the critical care he needs.
Say a prayer for my Mom,for her to have a sense of calm and peace to come over her.This is the worst health she has seen her husband in,in 42 years of marriage.

I was an EMT at one time and let my certification run out,because of anxiety attacks.The anxiety attacks never became a liability while administering patient care,but it could have.I didn't want that to happen,so I left that career field.

Here are some signs of a heart attack.

Arm pain(mostly left arm)
Chest pain that can radiate to your abdomen and back.
Symptoms that feel like indigestion

It's not always going to be the excruciating chest pain,that most people think it is.

There's no way of knowing for sure until an EKG is done.

He is coming through this at God's will.
Each day there are small improvements that are definitely encouraging.
No surgery.No dialysis(His kidneys haven't been working right for the past 4 years.We just found this out yesterday)
Mission hospital staff are providing comfort measures for him to rest.He has been moved out of CICU and is in a regular room.
Both medical conditions can be treated with medicine and of course a complete lifestyle change.
Thank you again for all your prayers.

My Dad is at my brother's house right now in the care of McDowell Hospice.He has been given anywhere from a few days to two weeks.My Dad is laying in his hospital bed behind me.He's resting good.No pain and we're trying to keep him as comfortable as possible.His heart and kidneys are failing.

Through all this ,he is alert and oriented,and sometimes jokes and laughs with us.That's beautiful.

I want to thank McDowell EMS,the first responders from Glenwood and Marion Fire Depts.,McDowell ER staff,Mission CICU and 3 West physicians and nurses,Mission's cafeteria and housekeeping staff,all the volunteers at the Lewis Rathburn House,where there was a room for my Mom,during my Dad's hospitalization,Faith Tabernacle Church and Zion Hill Baptist Church,and all Churches for their prayers,and everybodyelse who have prayed for my Dad.

Hospice has been wonderful.
