Thanks, m. I looked at that, but - as far as I can make out - once you send a message to somebody, they can see all your friends for a while. Or am I missing something?

If you go to the friends part you can customise and exclude people from seeing that info

In that setting i think you exclude friends from seeing that info so you could send a message and the excluded friends would not see that. I dunno about the other way around, i guess you could just send a private note to that person and no one could see that

No, I mean As far as I understand it, if you send a message to someone who's not a "friend", they can view at least part of your profile (including all your friends) for a time. Is there no way of not letting that person see your friends list?

I love Facebook. I resisted for a while, but joined up about a year ago. It's a great way to keep in touch with old friends.

Privacy > Profile > Friends > Select "Only Friends"

That should work. There's definitely a way, because I hate it when I find a friend (pre-confirmation) and I can't see their friend list. It's a good way of confirming the identity of the person (particularly those people with popular names).

Privacy > Profile > Friends > Select "Only Friends"

That should work.

I think it says 'If you send a message, that person can look at that shit, though', no?

I pulled this from the help files there:

People who you interact with on Facebook in these ways will have temporary access to view a small portion of your profile. They will see Basic Info, Personal Info, Work Info, Education Info and Friends. Keep in mind that your friends will always be able to view your profile and your content, unless you have adjusted your privacy settings otherwise.

I don't think you CAN restrict it if you want to send a message to someone. Makes sense, kind of. I don't want messages from someone who's not willing to let me know who they are...

All that said, you should just send me the friend request already, Ace. smile

Right, but it says "Friends" in the list, so I think that's part of what they allow people to see if you send them a message, your friend list.

That's fucked up. Surely, there's some way to set the damn thing so someone you message can't see all your fabulous homies?

That's what I thought! And you can't limit what they can see (e.g. hide yer F-R-E-N's from those motherfuckers)?

If you don't want someone you 'poke' or message or add to see your profile or friends list... or ANYONE who's not actually on your friends list for that matter... go to 'search' and then choose who and want you want people to see

Hope that helps

You can if they're not on your friend list nod that's in 'profile' then you'll see all the categories you can choose settings for - I've got all mine "only friends"
