I could get it done in henna first to see how I like it, right? I did that with my first one, always a good idea I think that's the plan then. I'll have a much better idea about it all when I've lived with it for a while.

I think it would be cool; although I would advise getting it on your left hand if you are righthanded and vice versa, at least that way it is not the first thing a potential employers sees when you go to shake hands. Also be sensible about what you want to put on your hand; if it is just going to be a small character that should be fine but something large that takes up to much of the surface of your hand might be a bit out of place. At the end of the day, if you've thought long and hard about it and it is something you really want - go for it! In the words of Brian Setzer (on the subject of tattoos), 'Every greaser knows: no neck or hands - always keep 'em out of the judge's sight'. There is no guarantee that any of us will never have to defend our honor in a courtroom. I would ask myself, "Do I need a tattoo on my hand?" If the answer is "No", better safe than sorry, I say.

I think if you love it, has meaning, and it's not anything really big it can work. If you plan on doing anything for a living where it might get in the way I'd think about it carefully. Like if you're going to Law School or something executive, where people might (fairly or unfairly) pass you up for a job because of tats. I have a very double-standard opinion on visible tat's on men vs women. It'd be the Japanese character in my sig, probably about 2cms in size, on my left hand. I'm unlikely to be getting an office job or anything like that anytime soon. How about your forearm? I have one that I can show or cover. I mostly cover it now.

I'd like to get one on the back of my neck or on my shoulder blade, but I won't. I'm not sure enough about it to do it. If I get there then I'll do it, if not no biggie.
Moni...let me know if you get yours removed and how much they quote you.

Employers have stupid ideas about appearance and unfortunately so do some of their clients. A woman (in her late 50s) at the college my husband works at asked him (her boss) if she could get an eyebrow ring. He checked with HR if there were any rules, and after some discussion she was told to go for it Nobody could believe it!!! She works in reception and greet customers all day. Though being a school and customers are young, it's possible that would be seen a positive and progressive thing She was delighted and I think it looks very becoming on her I'm starting to see more and more not-young women with unorthodox piercings. It was a bit startling at first, because when you see purple hair and a nosering you expect some young punk with a trihawk and not someone's grandma with a lavender rinse, but now that I've gotten used to the look it's not a biggie anymore. I think, just like younger women, it can usually be quite becoming. I'm trying to talk my mom into a piercing or two, but she's pretty squeamish so I don't think she's gonna go for it. I've some bleedy tattoos on old folks, that you can't even tell what they are meant to be any more does that happen to all tattoos or are there just better techniques/inks/equipment now? With older tattoos, it's a combination of age and poor techniques/equipment that used to be so common. Modern tats will blur a bit in time, but nowhere near as badly as those you see on older people have. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I am such a huge fan of silly or strange or otherwise unorthodox tattoos. My sister and I have matching rubber duckies on our arms. And I won't lie, but the thoguht of geting TDMS (This Doesn't Mean Shit) tattooed somewhere has crossed my mind more than once. I know a girl who advertises her veganism with a large cartoon carrot on her calf. I love it. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Some younger people want to keep tattoos and piercings to their own, conveniently forgetting no one gets to stay young forever. Before that, some in the alt crowd wanted to keep piercings and tattoos to their kind, conveniently forgetting styles change and that what is alternative now probably won't always be. I'm all for people doing what they want with their appearance. The more get it done, the more society will just have to accept the new norm, and the more employers will have to give up some of their dumbass dress code rules. It can only be a good thing IMO. I worked with a great artist for awhile. there are differences in ink that can cause the bleeding... esp. blue prison ink. lack of outlining causes some.... also, the skin ages...years of new cells... for everyone and the sharpness fades. touch-ups are a good idea if you have expensive/detailed work
