Warning-Pancake/Cake Mix/Bisquick

Warning-Pancake/Cake Mix/Bisquick

Hi everyone, A student at HBHS had pancakes this week and it almost became fatal..

His Mom (registered nurse) made him pancakes, dropped him off at school and headed to play tennis. She never

takes her cell phone on the court but did this time and her son called to say he was having trouble breathing. She told him to go to the nurse

immediately and proceeded to call school and alert the nurse. The nurse called the paramedics and they were there in 3 minutes and worked on the

boy all the way to the hospital. He came so close to dying. Evidently this is more common than I ever knew. Check the expiration dates on

packages like pancakes and cake mixes that have yeast which over time develop spores.

Apparently, the mold that forms in old mixes can be toxic!

Throw away ALL OUT DATED pancake mix, Bisquick, brownie mixes etc you have in your home.

You can check this website..... http://www.snopes.com/med...ancake.asp

P.. S. You might want to tell this to your children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and anyone else who keeps

these type of mixes in the cupboard.

Yup. The human race has become weak and will die off in a few years.

Who here didn't get pancakes or cornbread or something made for them by their mom when they were a kid from a box of Bisquick that was up in the cupboard, half-opened, for a year or so? lol

The further erosion of common sense. Now we have to tell people explicitly to throw out expired food. rolleyes

Who uses Bisquick or pancake mix? That stuff is disgusting - filled with artificial ingredients that are horrible for you. And I don't know what you're talking about with yeast. There's no yeast in Bisquick. The problem was that it got moldy. Yeast has nothing to do with that. And it's really only a problem for people who are allergic to mold. (I'd be in a bad way, myself, if I ate something like that.)

Pancakes are the easiest thing in the world to make from scratch. Flour...baking powder...an egg...milk...and some melted butter. Hell...you barely even have to mix them. (They tell you not to mix 'til the lumps are gone.) Why anyone would use a mix is beyond me.

it's cheap, it's fast, it's yummy, and there's less mess.

Bisquick is cheaper than flour and baking powder? Riiiiight. rolleyes

It isn't less messy, either. You still have to measure Bisquick...and you still have to add the wet ingredients.

If you think it's yummy, may God have mercy on your tastebuds if you ever eat anything really good. lol

Totally agree with this. Pancakes are so easy to make and taste much better when you do it. They're actually much more satisfying, too, in a strange way--not that it's any big accomplishment to make them, but there is something about making them yourself that is nice.
