He's done some great movies in the past (The Jerk, The Man With Two Brains, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, Three Amigos, Roxanne, Bowfinger), but he's also done some real stinkers as well (Sgt. Bilko, The Pink Panther movies). Those in the business refer to those other films like Sgt, Bilko which are so beneath the talents of the actor playing in it as "paycheck" movies, which is a way of saying that the actor needs work, or needs an alimony payment, or needs to get tuition for his child's private school or college expenses. Eddie Murphy used to be brilliant, but it seems like with the exceptions of the Shrek franchise and his performance in Dreamgirls, he hasn't been in a decent movie since Bowfinger.

If you really want to see the genius that is Steve Martin, you have to watch a movie that no one's mentioned - "All of Me."

He's not gay, and you're an idiot.

Yes, I know there's no correlation between the two facts but the sentence just felt right.

lately:

"Martin has also written two novellas, Shopgirl and The Pleasure of My Company. Shopgirl was later turned into a film (see above). In 2007, he published a memoir, Born Standing Up. Time magazine's Lev Grossman named it one of the Top 10 Nonfiction Books of 2007, ranking it at #6, and praising it as "a funny, moving, surprisingly frank memoir."[17] In a 2005 poll to find The Comedian's Comedian, Martin was voted one of the top 15 greatest comedy acts ever by fellow comedians and comedy insiders.

Martin recently released his first all-music album, The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo on January 27, 2009."

He also writes plays. I had the pleasure of appearing in a local production of one - "The Underpants" - a couple years ago.
