Steve Martin So Steve Martin is going to become the only person to host Saturday Night Live 15 times tonight. I read this and was excited, until I thought about why. He's supporting "The Pink Panther 2".
It makes me sad that this guy, who is a comic GENIUS, has fallen so far. I know he's a smart man, and doesn't need the paycheck so why do you think he has fallen into such crap lately? Is it the vanity of thinking he could recreate an iconic character as his own? I just can't believe he actually thinks these films are funny, so there has to be another reason. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

Ex-Moderator | I agree whole-heartedly. It makes no sense that someone so brilliant and talented would sink to something so stupid. |

I agree. He is DEFINITELY NOT Peter Sellers.

How do you know that he doesn't need the paycheck?

Most everything he's made in the last two decades has been rubbish. His earlier stuff like 'The Jerk' and 'The Man with 2 Brains' - pure class IMHO. And I did like his character in 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels'.
But all that banjo playing did something to him - 'Sgt. Bilko', 'Father of the Bride', 'Cheaper by the Dozen' etc. - what a waste of talent. (Insert withering remark about a parallel to Prince's career here)

And to add insult to injury, the last time he was on SNL he was promoting the first Pink Panther movie.
I think the *meh* of the Pink Panther movies and the other lack luster movies mentioned will pale when compared to Steve Martin on SNL tonight. He is really in his element on SNL. I can't wait to see it! I'm firmly planted in denial

Just because he doesn't need the paycheck, doesn't mean he doesn't want the paycheck. And while I used to like those early movies - haven't seen them in decades - and he's done some brilliant stuff on SNL ('My Christmas Wish', 'Don't Buy Stuff You Can't Afford'), I gotta admit I don't know why so many people consider him a comic "genius". Can anyone explain?

The last thing he did that I totally loved was the movie with Queen Latifah. Plus I never get enough of seeing him sing King Tut. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

so what if the Pink Panther movies are dumb. Have you seen Bowfinger lately? And you didn't laugh your ass off??

Yeah, it's sad and perplexing what's happened to him. He's clearly a smart and talented man, a wonderful comic and a terrific wit. His writing is often wonderful. So why is he constantly mucking around with such dreck? I think the last thing I enjoyed him in was Bowfinger. I just have to believe that someone with a brain like that must realize how bad the stuff he's in is. Maybe he just wants the check to keep acquiring expensive artwork; he's said to have an amazing collection.

Whatever Hall of Fame there is for entertainers like Steve Martin is not complete until he's in it.
Funniest guy ever, IMHO. And "Parenthood" is in my Top Ten All-Time Movies.

The decadence has commenced. To be totally honest though, Martin has never made me "Roll on the Floor and Laugh My Ass Off". I would LOVE to see just exactly what the fuss is about the guy. His funniest clip, perhaps. I've seen quite a few clips on youtube. I've seen things with the guy on them before there was a Youtube (So don't give me that "New Generation" crap.). The bit where he talks about his girlfriend's pussy - have you heard that? You've got to remember that when Martin did that bit, no one said the word "pussy" in a joke. Nowadays, the word "pussy" is 3/4's of Katt Williams' act, but it didn't always used to be that way. Martin did a special on HBO in the 1970's (yes, there was an HBO in the '70's!) that is probably the funniest thing I ever saw. I just found a site where I can order it, and if it's half as funny as I remember, it'll be the best thing I watch all year!

That was pretty funny. I heard about crowds being so uptight, back then (At least, the accessible public). So, I know he's an innovator of sorts. He was one of those guys with a squeaky clean image that could slip some dirty jokes in. Plus, I understand there was stage presence and good delivery with the jokes he told. So, I understand the psychology of his performances, but sometimes, he missed with me. He's been doing sub-par films for the last two decades or so. I loved him in "The Three Amigos" and "The Man with Two Brains". But the Pink Panther, can be funny if looked at as something new, but if you compare to the original, it sucks.
I also think he can be a genius. But he doesn't show it anymore.

Yeah, who asked for him to reprise this role? Dude just isn't funny as IC. I saw the trailer and was like "Who ASKED for this shit?". nWo: bboy87 - Timmy84 - LittleBlueCorvette - MuthaFunka - phunkdaddy - Christopher

Martin Short is another silly guy. He was on there. He's still stuck doing the whole Jiminy Glick character, though. He's supposed to be the satirical caricature of your regular, everyday overly caffeinated/upbeat journalist. This sig is just a fig of your imago-neigh-shun

Martin Short was the funniest to me in that film. I've always liked him the most out of those three (Martin, Short, and Chase). I've watched a few episodes of "Primetime Glick," but my favorite character I've seen Short perform is Ed Grimley, "I must say."
