Exactly unfortunately I need to hire a good lawyer and I am currently sick with their attitude. I'm like dude you want me to pay you $500 dollars an hour, you have to prove to me you have to qualifications to do the job I want done.
I don't want to pay you and then have your paralegal do the job for $50 an hour, that is fucking insane. mad If I am hiring someone for $500 he has to have 30 yrs experience and be able to quote me the law without referencing his god-damn book.. mad

I work in a law office, we have 14 lawyers on staff. I would say I am friends with each and every one, they are not as bad as they seem. It's all smoke and mirrors, trust me.

I kind of sense they are always fishing for legal stuff... and they love to lie.

Why the broad generalizations?

What you've said could be applied to people across the board, no?
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Why do people think being able to quote the state of the law when you went to law school is a sign of competence?
Do you realize how often the law changes?
I want a lawyer who can frame the legal issue(s) and go find the applicable law.
As a paralegal (who's also been to law school) I would never deal with a legal issue without looking up the current state of the law.
Guessing is malpractice because you could've looked it up and chose not to.
If it's something that you specialize in, then I might expect you to be current on the state of the law in your field, but not the entire law. . . .
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

No one is capable of knowing the entire law ... eek I never said they should know the entire law. wtf? But if you specialize in a certain area, I expect you to know the law in that field. At least simple questions.
Let me tell you I am talking to lawyers currently to see who will take my case. Since I have to shell out $5K for the retainer I want to retain a competent lawyer. The best way to do it is to seek free consultation and meet with them present your case and I have a pretty good idea of what I want and what the law is (I researched it). If they are rude on the phone or in person, I don't call them back, fuck'em
This is my problem, I so far have met with three different lawyers. I find the ones with the big offices are not really the smartest or that knowledgeable or honest with their billing either. Quote me 10 hours of work for $5K and today another lawyer quoted me 18 hrs of work for the same amount. That is a huge difference, wtf?
Also I am seeking a full refund on my lawyer fees based upon the contract and if the other party wins they collect. So far three lawyers have said I can collect if I win and today this last lawyer says no I can't so who to believe. I know I can collect if I win.

I have dealt with two lawyers in my life (as a client, though I do have some good friends who are lawyers) and found them maddening. Their words and their actions simply do not match. They do not communicate basic things. They seem to have an attitude that you need them so much, depend on them so much, they don't need to inform you of hidden costs, or to call you back within a fair amount of time like any normal person. I have felt a lack of respect with this attitude and I don't understand why someone needs to earn $500/hour off other people's sufferings! I went to film school and I have as large of student debts as they do, and I make peanuts compared to that. It's whacked!

Simple questions? No such thing in law.
Different firms charge different rates, the quotes would naturally be different.
Refund of fees based on what contract?
If you lose, are you saying you have no legal fees?
Too vague to know one way or the other from here.
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

The type of lawyer you describe is probably someone who doesn't want to practice but because of student debt or other reasons, practices law badly because they hate what they do.
Competent lawyers know satisfied clients are great advertising.

I didn't get that vibe. They seemed to be having a fine time. I just think they had too many things going on in their head. These kind of Type A personalities that can't keep track of the little things. I'm too sensitive and poor to have my life handled by someone like that. I would love to find one who could slow down a bit and simply be honest.

But if an 'honest' answer is a commitment to a certain result or course of action, they can't tell you what you want to hear.

um...I mean, if you say you're going to call me at a certain time then call me. If we're going to meet and go over the facts, then let's meet. If the translator is going to cost $90 an hour, then tell me in advance, not after we are sitting at the BCIS office and have no choice in the matter. I'm just talking about basic respect.

You can defend lawyers all you want, but I personally have had bad experiences working with them and it leaves a distaste in my mouth. I wish it weren't the case.

If you are an artist (music, theater, film, dance, visual, etc.) and your case is arts related, you may want to check to see if there is a Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts in your state. If you have a strong case, they charge nominal fees to place you on a case list so you are eligible for pro bono representation.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
