Chick-fil-a thriving despite bad economy

Chick-fil-A Tops Its Own Sales Record, Despite Economic Crisis

[2009-01-29] Despite the struggling economy, Chick-fil-A enjoyed an unprecedented year of sales growth in 2008. The Atlanta-based restaurant chain today reported 2008 system-wide sales of $2,962,253,976, representing a 12.17 percent increase over the chain's 2007 overall sales performance and a strong same-store sales increase of 4.59 percent.

Chick-fil-A's record sales performance marked the chain's 41st consecutive year of system-wide sales gains -- a streak that the chain has sustained since its inception in 1967 -- and its 16th straight year of double-digit sales growth.

"Of all of our years of sales growth, we are truly grateful for our customers' support as reflected in our 2008 sales," says Chick-fil-A President and Chief Operating Officer Dan T. Cathy. "Chick-fil-A was able to endure a number of challenges that could have been detrimental to any other chain, including targeted product competition among our quick-service rivals and a challenging economic environment, but our restaurant operators and team members remained committed to excellence which resulted in another solid sales year.

Chick-fil-A will continue its steady restaurant growth with 76 new locations planned for 2009, including 64 stand-alone restaurants, two mall/retail locations and 10 licensed outlets. The chain also will renovate 65 restaurants throughout the year in a reinvestment effort to extend the life cycle of each location and introduce new efficiencies that will help Chick-fil-A's franchise Operators attract and accommodate greater sales volumes.

I love Chick-fil-a drool

Chick Fil A is the only bible thumping business I can't resist.

I love the sandwiches.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

I love that they are closed on Sunday allowing their workers to worship on Sunday if they choose to. I like it when companies close and give their workers that day to as they please. More retailers should do that. Hobby Lobby does that too.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

We have a mall on the other side of town that is rapidly losing stores because of high rent. It's a two story mall which probably has 10 stores left in it, no joke. But even though it is so dead there, its Chic Fil A is always busy. I wish they would get a drive through on my side of town. pout

Hobby Lobby is the mutha fuckin hook up for after holiday deals. I think Chick Fil A built urgency with them not being openon sundays. also, they are a little bit pricey. and the McDonalds southern style chicken sandwhich can't hold a candle to the chick fil a sammich.

highfive Hobby Lobby is my SPOT!

I also think Chik-Fil-A's been so successful because they've grown very slowly in comparison to other franchises that you find on EVERY block. Even though I'm constantly complaining that there isn't one closer to my house, a bitch will sho nuf plan errands around the closest Chik-Fil-A. nod

There aren't any Chick-Fil-A restaurants around me. sad I guess that most of them are based in the South, but it's really cheap to set up a franchise; I believe that it only costs $5,000 to set up a franchise, but you have to go through a very extensive training program before they will open up a restaurant. Part of the reason is based on their Bible-thumping philosophy.

You're right. More and more fast food places are doing the "value menu" thing now with items $.99 or less. It's good for my pocketbook but bad for my health.

nod

It's true.
And they should take advantage of that and add more items to that value menu.
