Remember The Miami Vice remake fiasco? Do you think Hollywood learnt a lesson? Ridley Scott to remake The A-Team.

Hell no!

Ridley Scott to remake The A-Team

Director Ridley Scott has signed up to produce the big screen remake of 1980s TV show The A-Team, according to industry paper Variety.

The film, due out in 2010, will be updated so that the army veterans will have fought in the Middle East and not in Vietnam, Variety adds.

It says Joe Carnahan will direct and hopes to make a "popcorn movie" that "reflects on the real world".

The cult TV show starred George Peppard as Hannibal and Mr T as BA Baracus.

Dirk Benedict, as Face, and Dwight Schultz, as Murdoch, completed the quartet of mercenaries "accused of a crime they didn't commit".

Carnahan said 20th Century Fox had asked him "to make it as emotional, real and accessible as possible without cheesing it up", Variety added.

Actors including Bruce Willis and Ice Cube have been rumoured to be on board but no names have been confirmed.

CRAPOLA! When you watch this series now, you wonder; why the hell did I LIKE it in the first place?

I love Ridley Scott, but I wish he'd save the Alien franchise rather than ruin his career over an A-teem update.
Love

And producers cashing in on bad movies should be made to watch all seasons of Rosanne for the rest of their lives and nothing else.

Me too, but I hated how they ended the series and how she became this weird plastic creature over the years.

What DOES she do now?

Miami Vice was one of the (unintentionally) funniest movies I've seen in a long time.

It was a parody of cool, but more than that it had reached the next level of parody. Utterly brilliant!

I kept an episode of the A-team on VHS. It's the episode with CULTURE CLUB in it. Yes...Culture Club. It was awful.

What did Hannibal use to haul all his stuff around?

An "A-Team" wheeler!

Please laugh, I made that up myself 25 years ago.

Maybe they will call it Sons Of A-Team and Ice Cube can play Mr T's son called Ice T.

Obviously Hollywood hasn't learned anything! disbelief They haven't learned from the Miami Vice or Dukes of Hazzard fiascos, because they still remade Knight Rider and Bionic Woman as TV series, and both of them failed miserably. The reason those series were successful in the first place was because they were campy and cheesy escapist entertainment in the first place, but when the remade the series, they took all of the humor and cheesiness out of the storylines, making them depressing and dull. They saw the movie versions of Starsky and Hutch and Charlie's Angels become big box office hits, even though neither movie added anything new to the whole mystique. At least Ben Stiller and the producers of Charlie's Angels knew that they were cheeseball TV series, so they played up the camp factor as farce. Having said that, the storylines in both movies were pretty ridiculous, and neither moved need to come to the big screen.

Now this A-Team movie needs to be stopped right now before they even attempt to write a script for it. The whole series was a campy farce on the Dirty Dozen, and the last thing they need to do is infuse any reality into it. If anything, the old TV series may have just as well been called The Mr. T Show, because he was the main draw for the series in the first place. Hollywood producers approached Chris Rock a few years ago about starring in a movie version of Sanford and Son, and he gave them the riot act, telling them that the whole series was about Redd Foxx and his comedy act, not about a junk and antiques dealer and his exasperated son. They tried to make a movie version of Dallas, but they couldn't get enough actor to commit to it, not to mention the fact that they didn't even have a storyline planned, plus the fact that the original producers and some of the original stars vehemently objected to the movie in the first place, so it was eventually scrapped.
