Got Off Work Today! My boss called me and told me not to come to work today, because we're in the middle of a terrible snowstorm. I'm glad I don't have to drive in the snow and on the dangerous ice and snow-covered roads. My dad tried to come over here today to help me give my cat his meds, and he couldn't even make it up the street! So I'm glad I can just have a day to chill out at home. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Congrats!
Most of the schools in the Dallas area closed today because of an ice storm last night. The temp is in the teens now but will be up to the 40s this afternoon and 60s in a few days. The funny thing is that it's sunny outside so the ice will prolly melt in a couple hours.

Me too. Hate driving in the stuff, but it's not so bad when you can stay in the warm house, and watch the snow fall right outside of your window. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

But we're not equipped to drive in the stuff so they'd rather shut the city down. There were over 400 accidents last night alone.

You're right about the Dallas area not being equipped to drive in ice. It's the same thing where my brother lives (Raleigh, North Carolina). Even if they get just a bit of snow, the whole city shuts down. People down there are not used to the snow and ice. I guess when you don't get it all the time, as we do here, then the people living there don't know how to drive in it. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I got a call from the store owner just now, wondering if I wanted to work at the other store (closer to my house). I told her, "I would like too, but it's so bad out that I can't even get up the street". I got a call from the store manager telling me not come in, and now they expect me to work at the other store? Give me a friggin break! RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Nothing wrong with that. Sometimes you need a day off just to chill. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Lucky !!!
I work at a hospital that doesn't believe in snow days. Patients have to be taken care of. I'm so tired of driving in dangerous, snowy conditions. I'm firmly planted in denial

A two-day ice storm does not sound like much fun at all. Glad it's getting better for you. [Edited 1/28/09 8:22am] RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

No snow day for me. But half of the office is out b/c of the weather so I'm hoping to get a lot done with less interruptions.

Lucky you! My university opened at noon, so I had to dust off the dog sled and make it here
It's gonna suck going home tonight because my last class ends at 10pm and by then I'll need ice skates to get back to the car, which is parked a mile away If you will, so will I

It's nice and sunny here. Cold...but not a bad day for late January.
I'm just glad someone else is getting the precip for a change. We were running ahead of last season's record for snow - so we needed a break! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I went back to school this semester (second undergrad major in political science) and my university was the only "education center" open in the region.
Thank goodness I have a garage so I only had to fend my way through the snow-covered streets. Did pretty good too, making it to my first class right as the clock struck 10am outside. There were a lot of parking spaces available, but nobody knew how to park. Saw a few cars triple-parked -- not taking up three spaces mind you, but section of three rows of parked cars.
