A big pot of spaghetti sauce, or kale soup, or chicken curry would be bubbling on the stove, and there was always some freshly-baked goodie. She would always yell at us for "eatin' up all my fuckin' food!" but in reality she loved it.
She taught me how to swear and taught my daughters to swim. She taught me to be a tough broad by example, and taught me to know when to stop drinking by her inability to do so. She was a true Irish woman and so proud of where she came from. she was named for the Mother Goddess of Ireland. I'll miss her like crazy. awwww... a lovely tribute. |

I could write a whole book about her crazy, beautiful ass, but this was the best I could do typing on my mobile phone. I'm watching the snow come down like mad. A few days ago the kids and I were running on the beach. My cousins and I used to make huge snowpeople, and we'd make big boobs on the snowladies and put Auntie Breeda's giant bras on them. Very sorry to hear of your aunt's passing. I lost an uncle (who was like a second father to me) and a dear aunt both within the last seven months. I understand what you're going through. Happy memories will sustain you.

I hate that our daughter, while grieving for the auntie who took care of her when she was a baby, had to watch her other auntie's dog get killed right in front of her. And watch Breeda's dog on her last legs too. She said to me this morning, "This week sucks." Indeed. 'why y'all trying to say goodbye? I didn't go anywhere, I'm right here, im all around you,always..'

Oh, and here's an update to the Week Of Suck:
There was a huge snowstorm here today, and obviously freezing temps. We've been staying at my brother's house, and his furnace broke last night. Everyone woke up freezing, and when we figured out it was a broken furnace we just laughed because, what else can you do? I packed the kids and all our stuff into the rental car and drove to a nearby hotel. I have no idea how it happened, but on the way we got a flat tire. I'm waiting for AAA right now. I have to pick Chris up at the airport in an hour and a half. That is, if his plane didn't fall out of the sky or anything, WTF. The Normal Whores Club

We've been laughing and crying and laughing some more. That's the best way to keep her with you. My mom had 10 brothers and sisters too (my grandma actually had 14 kids - I have no idea how she did it! ) and I think the most comforting thing for all of us has been doing exactly what you're doing now - reaching out and holding onto each other.

Me and my daughters, my brother and his wife, my mother and three of her sisters went to an Irish pub the morning after we arrived. The owner of the pub came over to us, as it was kind of clear an Irish wake was going on (this is what we Micks do when someone dies - we drink and tell stories and laugh and cry). He gave us several rounds on the house, and joined in telling stories about Ireland, as he's from a town one county away from where my mom is from. We totally took over the place at 11 AM on a Monday morning, toasting Breeda and getting rowdy. Then I cursed my sister-in-law out and made her cry. It was the Jameson's. The Normal Whores Club

Another update: while my brother and I were comforting my grieving cousin with beers, trees and memories, my father called us to come and pick him up at the police station. He had totaled his car performing an illegal u turn. Nice! The Normal Whores Club
