I'm not as big as fan as I used to be and with recent developments, I would have said I am not a fan anymore. But then last night, I went to Prince Night and Marcus was playing the Lovesexy concert and then played the Automatic video for me and I fell in love with the guy all over again.

I guess I'm a Prince fan but the Prince forum is not for me. I'm crazy but not that damn crazy.

That clip is hilarious.

Was a fan, but he lost me about 5 years ago. I just see him now as a self absorbed, egomanical, whiny, boring, pathetic, dated, money grubbing pimp.

But I still come for the news, the laughs, the politics, new music and everything else not Prince.

I agree with you. I am not particularly a fan of anyone in particular. My IPOD has everything from Pink to Barry Manilow. I don't see the point in wasting my time learning facts and useless things about someone that will never give 2 hoots about me.
In the early 80's I listened to his stuff, but never did and never will hit the level of obsession that some are.
To each his own. I like this place for the boards that are posted in the "other than prince" portion.

I joined because I wanted to learn a little more about his music, technical aspects. I am no musician.

I find a lot of people on here expect too much of him and for him to be perfect and everything to them. He is not the Messiah. He is just a talented human being, who is capable of mistakes.
He spends all his time perfecting his craft and that has made him successful.

He does make good music and if you're in for the ride then enjoy it and if you don't like it then see ya. lol There will always be someone who loves him and someone who despises him.

nod Same here. I head over into M&M once in a while to see if there's any news but generally I avoid the place. That forum has gone so deeply downhill I'm not sure it can ever be resurrected.

nod sigh

I really, really wish the official forum hadn't closed down. Before we had just a few bad elements to deal with, now it's the majority. I haven't given up hope yet that something may happen to change the current M&M situation, but I'm not holding my breath, either.

I arrived here via Google, originally (was more of a fan then than I am now).

The combination of Prince's behavior and most of the songs he's put out over the past few years has definitely diminished my fandom. That said, I still have him on my SIRIUS XM artist alerts and I took the plunge the other night when I heard the beep on my way home.

On came "I Wanna Be Your Lover" and I hung and marveled at the music and singing. I might've even sung along a little while playing drums on the steering wheel. lurking The lyrics? Not so much. Can't really relate to that state of mind anymore (although I still get a laugh out of "I wanna be the only one that makes you come...runnin'! lol).

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that it reminded me all over again what a kick I got out of a lot of the little dude's music. There is still much joy to be had there. Even if, for me these days, it's mostly to be found in "repetition".

I am the opposite of this question as I haven't lost any ounce of my fandom with Prince but I can understand what a lot of people here are saying about P, especially about P:M&M. It has gotten really bad over there. It's my love of his music that keeps me there. For me, I try my best not to come off as a "looney tune" in there when I post and I try not to get into disputes and arguments but shit happens. All I can do is be honest with what I say about Prince and his music.

I've been trying create more threads over there that are music-related post but I can't stop anyone fromm rambling about how Prince and so-and-so are destined to be together but I can and I have reported a few people this past month alone and I think more of you should if you go there and see someone going off the deep end. I wish we had more of you in there but you have your reasons and I respect that. As long as we're respectable with one another then we're cool.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

But, his lack of concern for his fans has since left me with the same feelings towards him.

I'm not sure how I found this site, since I'm one of the few remaining 10 years plus veterans from the PPML days.
I think I just did a search and ended up here.
So hard to remember now...so long ago...

Ah. So you were a fan and just grew out of him, but decided it was worthwhile sticking around here?

In short, yes.
I've met many people here...some of which have become friends that I would gladly open my door to if ever the chance occurred. It's because of them that I still come here...and that's really about the only reason why.

Same as so many others, but I honestly don't give a shit about how he treats his fans apart for one thing - his greed. It's the same objection I have with most other artists, the ridiculous ticket prices they charge. I'm still a fan of his music up until a certain period, but anything after that I think sucks. So I came here as a fan, but I stayed for the friends I've made over the 11 years I've been around.

YAY! Umm, I'm 19. I haven't lost my famdom, but I decided to embark on an indefinitely inconclusive sabbatical. Time will tell when the phase will pop back up on me. His Royal Hiney has been a big pain in the ass, as of late. I just resort to listening to old Prince Jams, if I'm in the mood to scratch a reminiscence/nostalgic itch. I get a lot of those, even though I wasn't there when it happened. I feel like I lived vicariously through Mom Dukes before she even conceived. Strange, eh?

Stop bumping your own posts. It will not endear you to other posters, nor will it give you any attention apart from comments like mine. Not everything everybody has to say is interesting enough it needs commenting on, it's just a fact of Org life.

I was a fan when I joined this site(back when it was black & purple<<---couldn't find the "purple" color whofarted lol).

Prince has always been eccentric(which can't be faulted against him since 3/4 of us in here are abit eccentric too one way or another).

But his paranoia cost him his mind & a shit load of people last year, when he sued the mother of the child who was dancing to "Lets Go Crazy" and bullied her to take the video off,,,,and to add insult with injury, demanded his ONLY fansite in the internet(the almighty org) to be closed eek

Basically this lil' munchkin's actions said it loud and clear; "Keep your stupid admiration, I want YOUR money".

That oughta leave a nasty taste in anybody's mouth. Esp to those in here who worked hard to support him morally & YES financially in this day & age where he's no longer relevant in the music industry.

I still love his music despite the bullshit,,,,,and as you can see, I'm still here because I simply found some of the most engaging personalities that I share so much in common with that I probably won't ever encounter with in any other site.

So there's my story.

What they said, pretty much. The Prince of Way-Back-When will always be awesome nod The Prince of Today is someone who should not be encouraged disbelief

I stay at the org because there are some pretty cool people here, who I don't really see anywhere else. Of course, there are also those fams here that make hardcore Trekkies look normal lol

Not a fan anymore in the sense that I like past albums, but don't follow him now and don't ever listen to his new stuff. I was quite a big fan before though. Was looking for all the unreleased stuff and I think a search brought me here sometime in 2001, I believe. I signed up the year after if memory serves. I stay here for GD and chat.
