The thing is ~ Circuit City may take money off but you know the iPods will fly off the shelves when they have a significant discount so you'll have to be diligent and stalk them, and, they won't be around to honor a warranty. It was hard to get Best Buy to finally lemonize mine and give me a new one when the original fell apart, but they finally did it. The refurbished one through Apple with the warranty may be the way to go. The way the techs at BB explained it is that even when one is sent in for repair they just pull out the insides and replace rather than spend time trouble shooting and repairing.

I have an 80gb and I have never had any real problems

I checked into it already. Circuit City's warranties are handled by a 3rd party. I bought my first iPod at Circuit City and though I haven't had any problems with it, I was pleased with the warranty they sold me. Anything went wrong, I bring it and they give me a new one.

And yeah, I will NOT buy one at Best Buy. I well remember all the trouble you had with yours through them.

even apple.com has now discontinued sales of the refurbished 160GB iPod classic.

guess I'll scurry around all of the local Circuit Cities and see what I can turn up in the 120GB model. I think I'm going to have to settle for 10% off as they're going fast.
