Anyone seen the Wrestler?

I saw it on Tuesday. I thought the acting by Rourke and Tomei was very strong. I have no problem with them being nominated.

Ivy said she hated it though. She always sees movies she hates. lol
giggle

I have no idea why Tomei was nominated but she won't win so it's all the better for me. lol

I actually cried when I found out about the nominations for Viola Davis and Taraji Henson. Viola Davis is a very much underappreciated actress and for her to get an Oscar nomination for being on screen for five minutes is a tribute to her craft. clapping

When Taraji got snubbed at the Golden Globes, I was sure she would not get an Oscar nod. I am so happy for her. She was awesome in that movie and should win. woot!

I agree Marisa won't win the award. I would think Viola is a lock to win, but I haven't seen Taraji in BB yet.

You are gonna love this movie. Taraji transforms into the part of Queenie. Her and Brad shared a very real bond in the movie. I got lost in their characters.

I'm glad that The Dark Knight was left out, I do understand that Ledger is nominated!

Happy for Frost/Nixon, excellent movie!
Can't wait to see Benjamin Button.
Happy for Brad and Angelina.
I really hope WALL-E wins over Panda and Bolt.
Eventhough I haven't seen it yet, I feel that Eastwood has been overlooked for his role in Gran Torino....

In general it looks like a fair list, I'm glad that Kate Winslet did not get a double nomination!

Very happy about 'Der Baader-Meinhof Komplex'!!!
I wanna see that too.....

Heath was great, the movie itself was too long and too much out there.....I just didn't buy the whole psychological mumbo-jumbo aspect that it was trying to portray....

hmmm I don't think Angelina deserves a nod for the horrible Changling movie. It was pretty bad.

And I really have to see this Rachel Getting Married movie. I've heard great things about it

I just do not understand people that say this. Amazing as TDK was, it wasn't even half as into the "psychological mumbo-jumbo" as the comics -or really, as it could have/should have been. Why do people still want BIFF! BLAM! POW!? Batman IS the psychological mumbo-jumbo. confused

Glad Heath was nominated though. That's the best onscreen Joker I think we'll ever see. thumbs up!

Having been the only movie I've seen, I can't say I'm qualified to have a favorite yet but she was DAMN good in that movie. She's the one to beat, for sure.

I haven't seen any of the Best Picture nominees but I think The Dark Knight got robbed. That was an excellent film. I wonder if it being about a comic book character was the reason for them snubbing it. That's a shame if that was it. I wanna check out Slumdog Millionaire and The Case of Benjamin Button.

Fair enough. Much as I love it, there are aspects that got overhyped, and Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhall) was poorly cast IMO.

But I have come across a lot of people lately who said it was too dark and serious for a comic book flick, and that they would have preferred a bit of silliness. Why not just go watch Adam West or George Clooney, then? That weird 60's period notwithstanding, Batman is supposed to be dark and serious.

It was excellent. The other movies just can't compete. Some years I suspect the Best Animated category just gets filled with whatever happened to have been released that year. Bolt and Kung-Fu Panda were cute kids' movies, but certainly not Oscar-worthy IMO.

lol Yes.

I like how, for once in a kids' movie, it was the "male" character who was weaker, clunkier, and less intelligent than the "female". We still don't see that all that often in childrens' entertainment.

Woohoo, Departures in best foreign. Glad to see that nominated, but The Class will probably win, which is fair enough because it's an excellent film too.

Disappointed to see Kristen "Wrecka Stow" Scott Thomas absent from Best Actresses too. Melissa Leo deserves to win but it's probably going to Hathaway confused

The best supporting actor category looks the most interesting. Ledger is a lock but it's nice to see Robert D in there for essentially a dumb summer comedy. While they were at it they could have found a place for Brad Pitt in Burn After Reading.

As for Dark Knight in best picture, eh, no big deal, but it was better than some of the films that made the cut (The Boring Case of Benjamin Button, The Reader).

I was able to get a good head start this year. I've already seen the following nominated films:

Australia
Changeling
The Dark Knight
Doubt
The Duchess
Frozen River
Happy-Go-Lucky
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Iron Man
Milk
Rachel Getting Married
The Reader
Slumdog Millionaire
Vicky Cristina Barcelona

I'll definitely see Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Revolutionary Road, Waltz With Bashir and The Class before the awards.

I liked it better than the critics did.....it was underated in my opinion.
There were much better movies this past year however.

I love going to movies, so I'm really very open-minded to liking whatever
little bit I can digest from them, if that makes sense lol

I haven't seen Benjamin Button, but I was watching Burn after Reading last night and Brad Pitt is just not a good actor.

He's more skilled than Keanu Reeves at playing different roles, but I actually think Keanu loses himself in a part better than Brad. He can be funny or dramatic, but he seems to always be aware of the camera. He's always acting.

It's a similar flaw that Tom Cruise has. Tom tries really hard to act great, when a great actor never looks as if they're trying. Still, he's better than the appropriately named Pitt, who is the pits and acts like shit smile

yeah he's done a few good things, Risky Business, of course. I don't like him, particularly, but he's not as bad an actor as Brad
