bus hit by tree in hobart- wild weather in tassie

wild and wooley weather in tasmania!!!!!

A BUS has been hit by a tree in Hobart as gale-force winds continue to cause chaos in the state's south.

The bus driver was injured when a large tree fell onto the bus in Macquarie St about 11.30am

Wild winds uprooted the tree, near Dunn Place, and it fell across the front of the bus.

It is not known if there were passengers on the bus, but the driver was taken to hospital and was believed to have leg injuries.

Workmen are still at the scene removing the tree and motorists are urged to be cautious.
Gusts reached 124km/h just after 11am in Hobart and 141km/h on the top of Mt Wellington.

The wind has forced the closure of lanes on the Tasman Bridge and all traffic is asked to avoid the bridge, especially trucks and buses.

Police are urging people to stay indoors to avoid flying debris.

Numerous trees have been blown down, with one hitting a house in Westerway.

Power lines have also been blown down, with Aurora crews responding to power outages across southern Tasmania.

Just over 17,000 customers are currently without power
