There are 8 of us heading to Edinburgh this coming 6-8th Jan.Could anybody recommend a good restaurant at a decent price that is central.We are staying in Jurys Inn on Princes Street.Ta.

italian - http://www.giulianos.co.uk/giul.html guilianos, it's reasonably priced, homely and friendly, it's great for groups or couples, you can just relax and not worry about dripping spaghetti down you. food is really great and it's not too expensive. the one opposite the playhouse at union place is not far from your hotel, and the one at the shore is great too

chinese - Kweilin Restaurant,19-21, Dundas St, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH3 6QG
Tel: 0131 557 1875 - not the cheapest, but one of the best. in the city centre off prince's street, so not that far from your hotel either. whilst i say it's not the cheapest, it's not really expensive either. you could probably pay about the same prices if you chose any chinese place at randon

chinese - Jimmy Chungs Waverley, 17, Princes Mall, Waverley Bridge, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH1 1BQ, Tel: 0131 556 3313 - a cheaper option, buffet style. very close to your hotel, and next to waverley train station. there is another at 30a grindley street, off lothian road, again near prince's street

I've not been for a couple of years, there was a great place, no idea if it's still good, called something horsey. Bad Ass Bistro! That's it.

Thanks Unique for going to the trouble of recommending some places to eat.I will give one of them a whirl.As for the cuisine,my favourite would be Indian but our crowd are not fussy and would just go for what we feel for on the night.I was thinking of food in the region of £100 per couple with a bottle of wine,so nothing too extravagant or too cheap either.Thanks again.

Moved away from Edinburgh several years ago, but from memory, and places near where you are based, I used to go here for Indian. Hopefully they're just as good because it's been awhile.

i can't really think of anywhere in particular to avoid that you might come across really. i don't think you would fall across anywhere thats incredible overpriced by accident, the really expensive places are either obvious or discreetly located (ie. martin wisharts or the witchery)

if there's anything else just ask, as i live in edinburgh. there are plenty of trendy bars along george street (off prince's street) and down the side streets, and paralel to that is rose street which is more your typical rugby/footie showing pubs. the grassmarket area is full off pubs too, and more studenty, and not far from your hotel either. the town might be quiet this week, just after new years etc, especially midweek

Great stuff again Unique.Don't mind it being too quiet.All around 40 so wouldn't be going clubbing anway.Nice meal and a few pints after would do the trick.

the kwelin chinese is just off george street. use mapquest or google maps for a look at george street etc. that's slap bang city centre. prince's street is only about a mile long

The restaurant in The Scotsman hotel is very good. It's just off the Royal Mile on the edge of North Bridge (the bridge that runs above Waverly train station). I guess you'd describe the food as modern European, which basically means it's Italian and French cuisine with a Scottish twist - all made with locally sourced ingredients too. I've eaten there a couple of times and it's excellent. It's not cheap but considering the quality of the food I don't think it's too expensive either. You'll get well fed for £30 a head. If you were to go for all the trimmings: pre-dinner drinks, starter, main, side, dessert, wine with the meal, after dinner drinks, etc. you'd be having a great evening for £50 a head. Well worth it.

they do fixed price and pre-theatre menus that are pretty good! It's beautiful in there and the food is really nice.

Just back from Edinburgh and what a fantastic city is is.With the Euro strong against the pound it was quite cheap to eat and drink out.There were sales in all the shops and plenty of bargains to be had.
We ate in the Mussel and Steak restaurant in the Grassmarket area

On the following night we ate in Maison Bleue http://www.maisonbleuerestaurant.com/ which is just around the corner going up the hill.This was one of the best meals we've had in quite some time.All 8 starters and mains were just fantastic.(get a side portion of mediterranean couscous).Could not recommend this place enough.The surroundings and prices are brilliant.

Overall a wonderful city that I will return to soon.The pubs are great too.Stayed in Jurys Inn which was in a perfect spot central to everything.
You can get a bus for £5 return from airport to city centre.It stops 5 min walk from Jurys Inn.

Colour me jealous!
