That's good news that it's stomach irritation and not something wrong with one of the organs. Hopefully the meds will kick in soon and he will be feeling much better.

It's worrisome when you have a pet that keeps vomiting. My vet asked me several times if my cat ingested something that he should have. I don't think he did, since I don't leave any cleaning products/pesticides/string or anything laying out in the open. what about plants? 'why y'all trying to say goodbye? I didn't go anywhere, I'm right here, im all around you,always..'

Yes, definitely good news, although he did seem to think that Reebok may have hyperthyroidism. They are going to run another test to see if that's what's going on, since the thyroid test came back a bit abnormal. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

psychodelicide said: Okay, here is an update for those of you who are interested. I just got back from the vet's, after being there for almost an hour. The vet examined my cat, and said that he was dehydrated (probably from throwing up for the last couple of days). It's a good thing I brought him in when I did! The poor cat was so dehydrated that the vet had trouble drawing blood so that they could run tests on him. The vet had to draw blood from both legs, so the cat has a matching bandaid on each leg. The vet had to stop, give him some fluid to help with the rehydration, then draw the rest of the blood that he needed.
The vet also gave my cat some meds to help his tummy, as well as two liquid meds that I have to give to him morning and night. The doctor mentioned the possibility that the reason why my cat was vomiting could be something related to his liver or thyroid. But I'm hoping and praying that it's not that, and that this is something minor that can be cured quickly. [Edited 1/20/09 16:12pm] Could it be cat food that was made in China? Whenever I go shopping for clothes, towels or any thing, I search for that tag that tells me where the item I am going to buy was made. I am scared of getting some skin disease or something worse.

Update #2: Well, the good news is that my cat's thyroid and other organs are functioning normally. The bad news is that the vet found a lump in my cat's intestine. The vet told me to put my finger where his thumb was, and there definitely was a tumor that could be felt. He said that it could be one of three things: 1) fecal matter; 2) a foreign object that the cat ingested, or 3) a tumor.
The vet gave my cats some more fluids (since he STILL is not eating or drinking), as well as a vitamin shot, which he said may help. The vet also gave me another prescription to give to the cat, tonight and tomorrow morning. If the cat continues to vomit, then I need to take the cat back to the vet's tomorrow so they can do x-rays to see what is going on. I am praying that it is not a tumor, that it is either fecal matter or a foreign object. If it is a tumor, I am praying that it is not cancerous. I already had a bad day today, and hearing about my cat having a possible tumor has just made it a lot worse. This is the part about owning a pet that is so, so hard! My cats are like my kids, and I love them all dearly. The thought of my cat possibly having cancer is totally upsetting! I cried in the car on the way home from the vet's, and I am crying now as I am typing this. I just hope that the medication works, that the cat stops vomiting, and we can proceed from there. But then we still have the tumor issue to deal with. Not sure what is going to happen there, but I will be sure to keep you all updated. Thanks for your caring and support, I greatly appreciate it. You guys are the best. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

The one, kind of humorous thing, to come out of all of this is that the vet gave me a prescription for my cat. Since the vet did not have the medication, I had to get it filled at Walgreen's. When I looked at the name on the prescription, it said "Reebok (my cat's name) Feline (and then my last name)". My cat now has an account at my local Walgreens. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Reebok vomited during the night (after I gave him the new medicine the doctor prescribed). So it looks like I'm going to have to call the vet (when the office opens up today) and take him into the vet's to get some X-rays done. I'm still hoping it's fecal matter and/or a foreign body that is causing the lump in his intestines, and not cancer. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

It doesn't have to be a tumour, there's no way the vet can say with 100% certainty that the lump is in the intestine cos it's damn crowded in there - it could be a benign cyste (sp) as well. I'd say that the vomiting (and he still doesn't poop?) says that there's a foreign body, or something is blocking the passage at any rate. Since he's been vomiting for so long this might not work, but it's worth a try before you call the vet again; Get some liquid honey, and put it in his water. If he doesn't want to drink, then get a syringe (obviously without a needle, can be gotten at any drug store) and just shove it down his throat. The honey will sort of capsule in whatever might be stuck if it's in his tummy still, and it might help to get it up, or to move on. It makes it slippery so to speak. Another well known home remedy is canned yellow asparagus - mash it up and again shove it down his throat cos it's not really cat diet . It does the same thing and might help with moving things along. It's absolutely worth a try, if he can keep down water for a couple hours at a time he won't get extremely dehydrated so you can relax a little bit. Also, if the vomiting has decreased to the point where he can keep down soft food (or boil some fish, that's very smooth to the stomach) and not much comes up when he does vomit, then give the honey/asparagus and what food he eats a little time to work. I know you are worried but I very much doubt Reebok is dying. Go out and get the honey and asparagus and start manhandling your cat a little. If the vet's office is open Sunday, then leave it until then. I wish I could do more. Reebok Nani

Unfortunately, the vet's office is closed Sunday, so I'm going to have to take him in today. But I will try the honey that you suggested. He probably won't eat it, so I'll have to use a syringe, like you suggested. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.
